Parents/Carers

At Avanti House School, we welcome parental contributions and work closely with all parents/carers, welcoming them into the school environment.

Ofsted Parent View

You can tell us your views about the school by completing Ofsted’s online survey, Parent View, at: http://www.parentview.ofsted.gov.uk.

Parent View asks for your opinion on 12 aspects of your child’s school, including the progress made by your child, the quality of teaching, dealing with bullying and poor behaviour. Ofsted inspectors use the online survey responses when inspecting your child’s school.

To register your views, you will need to provide your email address, which will be held securely. It will not be used for any purpose other than providing access to the online survey. Neither schools nor Ofsted will have access to any email addresses.

Parent/Carer Consultations

All pupils are assessed regularly through formative i.e. daily/on-going and summative tests i.e. end of term and end of year. Careful observations and assessments ensure that all aspects of our children’s learning is documented. Parent consultations take place at the end of each term for Reception pupils and twice-yearly for our secondary pupils and this gives an opportunity for you to talk to your child’s teacher about his/her progress. Written reports are compiled at the end of the autumn term, with a full summary at the end of the summer term.

Communication and Relationships

Building effective communication channels with our parents/carers and establishing positive relationships is central to our everyday practice. Regular half termly newsletters and letters from the Principal and key members of staff, act to ensure that parents/carers remain fully informed of any school developments. We actively encourage face-to-face communications with all parents/carers and encourage partnership working by offering both individual sessions and group parent/carer workshops, which cover a variety of topics.

Home Learning

Homework or home learning tasks at the primary level are set on a regular basis and this acts to reinforce learning, particularly that of the core skills for our younger pupils. This area of school practice is currently being developed in consultation with our parents/carers and the pupils.

Research has shown that accelerated learning takes place when parents are actively involved with the education of their child. We encourage you to work together with your child to promote interest and enjoyment with any homework tasks or home learning projects.
