Dear Parents / Carers,

School Closure from 15.30 Wednesday 18th March 2020

Unfortunately, I have had to take the very difficult decision after discussions with the Trust to close Avanti Court School with effect from 15.30 tomorrow, Wednesday 18th March 2020 due to a significant number of staff in the school who have identified health concerns that place them at increased risk of severe illness from the coronavirus. These staff, as per the government guidance issued yesterday, now need to self-isolate for up 12 weeks. For this reason, the school cannot remain open as the staffing levels would be neither sustainable nor adequate.

I recognise that pupils and parents will be very concerned about this development and I also know that you will understand that I have not taken this decision lightly but have done so following lengthy and detailed discussions with Avanti Schools Trust and Public Health England.

We will endeavour to publish work for pupils on a learning platform and further details will be shared shortly. Staff can be contacted by email; their addresses are listed on the school website. All staff will be working from home subject to them remaining well enough to do so.

We anticipate that the school will be closed for up to 12 weeks but will keep the option to reopen sooner as this is under constant review. I and my senior colleagues will be available tomorrow morning between 8:10am-8:40am and from 3:00-3:30pm to meet with parents and answer what questions we can.

I can only apologise for the inconvenience. I am deeply saddened that we have to take this course of action and can assure you we will do everything we can to support our pupils. However, during this time the health and safety of all pupils, staff and the school community must remain a priority.

Your sincerely,

Mrs Walters

Coronavirus Updates

Thursday 12th March 2020

Dear Families,

I am contacting you to let you know that yesterday evening a member of staff at Avanti Court Primary School was advised by their GP to self-isolate for up to 14 days. It is important to stress that this is a precautionary measure and the member of staff concerned has not been confirmed as having the Coronavirus.

I will be speaking to Public Health England later this morning and seeking further advice. We will continue to keep parents, carers and the school community informed with any updated advice passed to us.

If parents would like to speak with me or a member of the school’s senior leadership team we will be available this morning between 8:10-8:30am and then later in the day between 3:10-3:30pm.

Yours sincerely,
Mrs Walters
