Principal Update

The end of term is fast approaching; however, it does not mean that school life has slowed down. This week Year 10 students have taken part in work experience. Many students have been out on placements and a small number have remained within the school supporting our admin, medical and premises teams to experience various aspects of school life. If their enthusiasm and hard work are anything to go by, our students have demonstrated their Avanti Values this week, and we are enormously proud to have completed our first ever work experience.

We are looking forward to Ratha Yatra celebrations, the end of year production, the Year 7 Avanti Quest retreat in Lincoln as well as our welcome of new students into the school as part of our transition. We have begun to welcome our reception and nursery stay and play sessions and look forward to having our incoming Year 7 students attend on Tuesday next week.

Next week’s bulletin will again focus solely on providing parents with key information to ensure that you are ready and prepared for next academic year.

Rathayatra Festival

Friday 1st July celebrates the festival of chariots called Rathayatra. It is known as the oldest street festival, dating back 5,000 years, commemorating the return of Sri Krishna to His childhood village of Vrindavan.

The famous city of Jaganntha Puri on the eastern coast of India is known for the largest Rathayatra celebration in the world. Three chariots 40 feet high parade the street, with millions joining the procession with kirtan, music and dance.

We will be observing this festival in school on 1st July with a mini-chariot carrying the deities of Krishna in the form of Jagannatha, Lord of the Universe. Students will have time during the day to enact this ancient festival. They are welcome to wear respectful, traditional outfits (no jewellery) or School uniform. And of course, no festival is complete without a delicious feast.

Wishing you all a happy Rathayatra festival.

Salters Chemistry Festival

On Wednesday 22nd of June, six year 10 students attended the Salter’s Festival of Chemistry at the University of Nottingham. They first attended a lecture by three keynote speakers who told the story of their progression to study a PhD. Following this, they were taken to a science lab where they learnt how to make Aspirin. They ended the day with careers talk from an assistant professor and a CEO at the university. It was a day to remember with memories made and inspirational lessons learnt by the students.

“The chemistry trip was an amazing experience, we got to go into the labs and make aspirin and speak to a few people who work in the University. I am so happy I got the chance to go! Thank you.”  Asha P
