Principals Update
Unfortunately, the weather has been terrible this week, but that hasn’t stopped our primary pupils from participating in their sports day events! It is wonderful that we are able to have our parents share in this experience with their children. A very big shout out to the primary team for adapting their plans and running each sports day in the primary hall.
Yesterday our Year 11 students had their shirt signing event and leaver assembly. This was a chance for the school to formally wish them farewell and recognise them as a cohort. They will officially begin their study leave from Monday 3rd June, where they will only be required to come into school for their exams.
After the half-term, we also have the Phonics Screening Check for our Year 1 pupils and Reception pupils will be getting assessed on their development of the Early Learning Goals. We know that our youngest learners have been working hard, we’ve put in targeted interventions, and I am confident that they will demonstrate this in the coming weeks.
Mobile Phone and SMART Watch Procedures
After the half term, we will be starting to implement the Trust mobile phone and SMART watch procedures within the school. Pupils attending an Avanti school will only be allowed to use their mobile phones or SMART watches before or after school, but not on school premises.
- Mobile phones should be stored in lockers (preferable) or in school bags. They should NOT be stored in pupil’s blazers.
- Mobile phones should be turned OFF upon entry to the school gates.
- SMART watches should NOT be worn to/from school.
Sanctions
Pupils who infringe the rules will have the following sanctions issued:
- Mobile phone or SMART watch confiscated by school staff, to be securely stored with our admin team until a parent is able to collect.
- Automatic C3 detention will be issued.
- Repeated infringements may result in requesting the mobile phone or SMART watch not be bought into school, or held with our admin staff throughout the day. Other sanctions may be applied as per our current behaviour policy.
The school’s behaviour policy for 2024-25 will be updated to include this information. Temporary guidance as outlined above is available on our school website.
Pupils will attend an assembly on Monday 3rd June to update them on the change in procedures.

Primary News
Sports Day
This week all pupils in the primary have participated in sports day events. Sport day events are about learning new skills, team building and being resilient. The children had a fabulous time, we hope all parents who attended did too!
House Point Winners
Cosmos are on a roll! Cosmos won our house point competition this term, so Miss Savadia treated them to an ice-cream party. They ate lots of yummy ice-cream and spoke about how they show the core values daily. They also spoke about the importance of WHY we follow our core values. They managed to get 57 house point balls in the jar this term! We are so proud of them!
Attendance Winners
Attending school on time and regularly is highly important for your child’s development as it allows them to access our full curriculum. We love to see so many children come to school every day and hope this high streak of attendance can continue! Thank you for your support as co-educators. Buttercup surpassed ‘Neptune’ this term and are back onto ‘Mercury’, so they also enjoyed an ice-cream party; they have had over 99.9% attendance for the last 3 weeks! Snowdrop, and Bluebell were only 2 planets away from reaching Neptune. Come on Daisy class! I wonder which class will be first to reach ‘Neptune’ in the final term? Daisy might even take the lead!
RRSA Article of the Week: Article 24
Every child has the right to the best possible health. Governments must provide good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food, and a clean environment and education on health and well-being so that children can stay healthy. Richer countries must help poorer countries achieve this.
The focus surrounding this Article is Mental Health Awareness Week, which occurs every year in May. It is an ideal time for us all to think about mental health, tackle stigma, and discuss how we can create school environments that protect our mental wellbeing. I will specifically be focusing on the core principle – we are incredible human beings- and how we can nurture all parts of ourselves to live our greater purpose.
You may want to talk about how we look after our physical, social, emotional and intellectual wellbeing e.g. by partaking in hobbies, spending time with our friends, doing things with our family etc.
Here is an activity you can do at home. Watch this video then talk to a friend or grown up and/or draw/ write a list of things that make you feel happy or positive.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.
The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.
This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
