Principals Update

The school year has started exceptionally well. Our second week of teaching has started to put our regular routines in place and are setting the building blocks for a year of learning ahead.

This week we have begun to welcome our parents back to the school community. On Tuesday evening we held our Year 7 and Year 8 Parent Information Evenings, and today we have our Reception parents in for a workshop. Next Tuesday we look forward to hosting Year 9 (5:00pm – 6:00pm) and Year 10 (6:30pm – 7:30pm) parents for their Parent Information Evenings.

This week primary after school clubs have launched and next week we begin the after school clubs for our secondary pupils. We strongly encourage all of our parents to consider enrolling their children in our after school provision to support them in developing the Character and learning new skills.

Summer Reading Challenge – Leicester Libraries

Summer Reading Challenge 2024

Dear all,

Marvellous Makers is this year’s summer reading challenge with Leicester libraries.

The challenge encourages children to use their local library and maintain their reading habit through the long summer break and aims to mitigate the dip in performance associated with a long break from reading, that many children experience in the new school year.

Starting Saturday 29 June until the 15 September, children aged 0 to 15 years can sign up to take part and complete the six-book challenge.  A prize of £100 of books will be awarded to the Leicester school with the highest percentage of children finishing the challenge (numbers recorded by Leicester libraries staff).

In Leicester, we also have a challenge for adults to promote good role modelling.  Adults, you can participate by reading six books for a chance to win £30 worth of books!

Leicester libraries’ offer is enhanced with a range of free activities for the whole family, all designed to promote reading for pleasure and the joy of sharing books and stories.

There is a short film and assembly presentation to use to encourage your pupils to take part in the challenge.

For further information about our full programme of activities please visit leicester.gov.uk/summerreadingchallenge.

We hope you will join us in encouraging your children to keep reading this summer.

Contacting the School

Communications – Wherever possible please use the contact form on our website to get in touch. This is detailed on the website at https://avanti.org.uk/avantifields/contact-us/. The appropriate member of staff will pick up the message and get back to you as soon as possible.

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
