Principals Update

Our primary parents this week had the first of three planned parent evenings this year. They were able to hear about how their child has settled into the year and what they are currently learning at school. In addition to this, our Year 7 parents had the opportunity to meet their child’s form tutor and discuss how they were settling into secondary school life.

Our secondary sporting teams are already in full swing and have had a number of fantastic results. A big well done to the Year 9 Boys Football team, the Year 9 Girls Basketball team and the KS4 Girls Football team for progressing through to the semi finals.

Parents Survey

Thank you to the parents who have already completed the survey – we have already taken note of some of the feedback around communication processes needing to be improved. A full review of the survey will take place in the Autumn 2 term, with feedback provided to parents in the bulletin when we return.

The survey will be open until the half-term. https://avanti.wufoo.com/forms/afs-parent-survey-questions-202425

Spiritual Wellbeing Leads

We have recently appointed Mrs Thornton as the secondary Spiritual Wellbeing Lead (or Chaplain) to our school. Mrs Thornton will officially be joining us from week commencing 4th November, and will be onsite Wednesday to Friday each week. Mrs Thornton is joining Mrs Gadhia, the primary Spiritual Wellbeing Lead across the Leicester hub. Mrs Gadhia works at Krishna Avanti Primary School on Tuesday and Wednesday and at Avanti Fields (primary) on a Thursday.

Spiritual Insight is the core of our mission statement, emphasising the belief in our unique potential across intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual dimensions. The role of the Spiritual Wellbeing Lead is to further enhance and support our school culture and community. Mrs Gadhia and Mrs Thornton will provide pupils with opportunities to explore the big questions of spirituality, identity, meaning and purpose.

Mrs Gadhia has begun work with Avanti Fields since the Summer 2024 term and has had a chance to work in each of our classes, supporting at breaks and lunches as she begins to get to know our pupils. She will begin to support wider with assemblies, pastoral care, spiritual insight discussions and festivals. Your children may have already seen her around the school and are beginning to talk about their own personal spiritual journeys.

Padlocks for Student Lockers

We wanted to inform you there has been an unforeseen issue with the padlocks for student lockers. As a result, we kindly request that your child purchases a suitable padlock for their assigned locker.

We recommend purchasing a padlock that comes with two keys – one to be kept at home for safekeeping.

All students should ensure they have a padlock for their assigned locker by Monday 07.10.24. It is particularly important for all Year 11 students to have a padlock in place ahead of their upcoming mock exams.

Our sincere apologies and thank you for your support and understanding.

Unauthorised absence from August 2024

Penalty Notices will increase to £160 per parent per child (discounted to £80 if paid within 21 days).  If there is occasion to issue a second Penalty Notice for unauthorised leave of absence within a rolling 3 year period, it will be issued at the higher rate of £160 per parent per child, with no opportunity to pay at the lower level.  A Penalty Notice cannot be issued if there is a third occasion of unauthorised leave of absence in the rolling 3 year period and it is highly likely that the local authority will take direct prosecution action in the Magistrates’ Court which can result in you receiving a criminal conviction.  Please also be aware that any cases of extended periods of unauthorised absence, linked to holidays or trips away, are highly likely to result in prosecution action by the local authority.

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
