Principals Update

Last weekend the PTFA hosted our annual Hanuman Chalisa event. The series of verses in Hanuman Chalisa recounts the commitment and devotion of Lord Hanuman to Lord Ram. It shares messages of the eternal feeling of love and sacrifice, and holding god in your heart. A big thank you to all of our PTFA volunteers for making this event possible.

As a part of Anti-Bullying week Primary children celebrated Odd Socks Day last Tuesday 12th November. We are pleased to announce that primary children raised £205.20 for Children in Need while dressed in SPOTS and learned about importance of charity and helping others. Well done to all!

Parent Survey Feedback

A very big thank you to the parents who completed the Parent Survey that was open earlier in the term. It is important for our parents to be given the opportunity to share their views on the school and I want to begin a weekly theme for the remainder of this half-term to share the feedback, but more importantly the actions we intend to take to continue to improve the provision we offer our pupils.

79% of parents shared that their child felt safe at school and 78% of parents indicated that their child is happy at Avanti Fields. We are happy that this has come through a strong positive theme for the school and will continue to have a student-centred approach to the work that we do. While a large proportion of our parents have indicated that their child hasn’t been bullied, we are pleased to see that if it has occurred, our response to bullying appears to be effective.

There are a few areas that have come as a surprise this year, with a drop from previous years. One of which is our support to children’s wider personal development and another being that parents don’t think their children are going well at this school. I will be planning a parent townhall open event early in the spring term to pick up some of these themes to better understand where this change has come from. Particularly given that we have had a second year of exceptional GCSE results. Please do look out for information in January for the parent townhall.

Next week I will discuss further themes emerging from the survey and detail actions on how we will be addressing them.

Primary News

Attendance and punctuality

As a school we aim for high attendance at all times of the year to ensure pupils are accessing the whole curriculum offer. Punctuality to school is also essential; learning starts straight away. Please ensure that your child comes into school on time everyday. All KS1 pupils (Year 1 and 2) can access school from 7.45.

This is a reminder to all KS1 parents to bring your child in early (between 7.45-7.55) to avoid traffic build up. We are also encouraging pupils to park and stride with their parents where possible.

Each week we celebrate attendance as a whole primary group and certificates are given each term to those pupils with high attendance. Let’s make everyday count!

The attendance winners are Daffodil and Tulip

Enterprise Week

As part of our school’s enterprise week (Wk bg. 2nd December), all children will be participating in an enterprise challenge! Each year group will have a budget of £20.00 to buy resources to make and sell products at the Christmas fayre on the 10th December, I do hope you will be able to come along to that fayre to explore the different stalls. All money raised at the Christmas fayre will support with school resources! May the best year group win!

Pre-school: This week Pre-school have enjoyed their learning around the story ‘The three billy goats gruff’. We started the week ordering the billy goats gruff ‘small, medium and large’ and have enjoyed constructing bridges for the goats to cross safely. We have been developing our story-telling voice through the troll as he bellows “whose that trip-trapping over my bridge!”.

Reception: we have been baking bread like the Little Red Hen! We’ve poured, sprinkled in and mixed all of our ingredients together! We’ve then baked our fresh bread… we can’t wait to eat it with ‘oodles of creamy butter’, jam or biscoff spread!

Year 1:This week Year Ones have been learning how to login on a laptop using the keyboard to type. We have also learnt different styles of rolls in PE.

Year 2: This week Year 2 have gone back to 1666 with their Keynote skills! They’ve brought the Great Fire of London to life in their presentations they made on the iPads!

Also Year 2 had a wonderful time this week exploring poetry in English. They worked in groups as ‘wizards and witches’ to recite a poem about a mysterious Wolf.

Stars of the week

All pupils who were a star of the week joined the ‘top table’ for lunch. A huge well done to: ……..

RRSA Article of the Week

Every week, children will be learning about an ‘Article of the Week’. This will help our children to learn and develop an understanding about the Convention on the Rights of the Child articles. Week 3: World Children’s Day

Week 3: World Children’s Day

Article’s you could explore which link to this topic: 45

Article 45 says non-governmental organisations, such as UNICEF and other United Nations bodies, can provide advice and assistance on children’s rights.

This week we spoke about World Children’s Day. World Children’s Day is UNICEF’s annual day of action for children, by children. It takes place each year on the 20th November, the date when world leaders adopted the Convention in 1989.

From climate change, education and mental health, to ending racism and discrimination, children and young people are raising their voices on the issues that matter to their generation and calling for adults to create a better future.

Here is an activity you can do at home.

Talk to your family or carers about their childhood. What was different when they were growing up? How has the Convention impacted on children’s lives. Draw, write or produce a resource to show a comparison of a young person’s experience then and now.

GCSE Achievement Awards

Thursday 14th November marked an important day in the Avanti Fields calendar – the Celebration Achievement Awards ceremony! Year 11 students were invited to receive their exam certificates, and had a chance to spend some time with their old tutor group and teachers again. Virtue awards were handed out for students across all years, linked to our school virtues of Respect, Self-Discipline, Courage, Gratitude, Empathy and Integrity.

We also celebrated the achievements of last year’s Head Boy & Head Girl, as well as students who exemplified our three-fold path of Educational Excellence, Character Formation and Spiritual Insight.

It was a great evening and an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of students who exemplify the Avanti Way. Congratulations to all award winners, and another well done to Year 11 for their successes in their GCSEs!

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
