Parent Survey Feedback

The final area where parent comments were common (3 responses referenced) is around recruitment/retention. From last academic year to this one, we retained all of our primary teachers, and only had 4 secondary teachers move to other school settings. With that in mind, we have made additional SLT appointments this year, some of which were internal, that we have not been able to permanently backfill. This has meant that a small number of secondary lessons are currently timetabled to long-term supply/contract teachers. We have provided these staff with comprehensive planning documents and also additional SLT support to ensure that teaching and learning remains a priority.

We will be running a second parent survey in the Summer 1 term and will be organising for parent town hall events in the new year. Please do look out for these opportunities to provide you feedback to the school.

PTFA Raffle has launched!

Ticket booklets for our big PTFA raffle have now been handed out. We are now encouraging parents to help their children with ticket sales. Should you be attending any events over the Christmas holidays, please have your child ask for additional ticket books to sell. This could be for family, friends, work colleagues, neighbours …

Additional prizes, such as £50 Amazon vouchers have also been added to the prize pool.

Attendance celebration

This week Ms Thakore and Miss Savadia held our first Attendance Assembly of the year! We celebrated an incredible 76 children who have had 100% attendance for the entire Autumn Term and even celebrated our Reading Champions, who have been working so hard to ensure they read at-least 5 times a week! We are so proud of all of our superstars, and can’t wait to celebrate even more children next term!

Christmas Cards

As we approach the festive season, we know many of you would like to send Christmas cards to each other.

As part of the Avanti Way, we want to uphold our core principle of:

Strengthening connection. In Strengthening connections, we believe all life is interconnected and therefore strive to care for and respect all life- human, animal and plant- living in a way that causes the least possible harm.

With the above in mind, we are asking all pupils who would like to send cards to their peers and teachers to send a single card addressed to the whole class, rather than individual ones. This may even be a home-made card! Teachers will share and display these cards in their classrooms wishing all pupils a Merry Christmas.

We want to thank you in advance for supporting in making our world a better place to live in.

Enterprise Week

As part of our school’s enterprise week (Wk bg. 2nd December), all children will be participating in an enterprise challenge! Each year group will have a budget of £20.00 to buy resources to make and sell products at the Christmas fayre on the 10th December, I do hope you will be able to come along to that fayre to explore the different stalls. All money raised at the Christmas fayre will support with school resources! May the best year group win!

Pre-school: This week pre-school have enjoyed decorating the Christmas trees in school and making chocolate moulds as part of our melting and freezing learning in science. What a fun week!

Reception: This week Reception have been making their own Sweet Houses, inspired by Hansel and Gretel. Can you have a go at drawing your own sweet house? Which shapes will you use?

Year 1: This week Year One children have been busy baking treats for enterprise week. We are ready to sell our treats at the Christmas Fayre. Don’t forget to visit our stall.

Year 2: This week Year 2 have been channelling their inner Kandinsky! Exploring shapes, colours, and creativity—just like the master himself!

Stars of the week

All pupils who were a star of the week joined the ‘top table’ for lunch. A huge well done to: ……..

RRSA Article of the Week

Article of the Week – Rights Respecting Schools Award (unicef.org.uk)

Week 6 focus: Human Rights Day

Article’s you could explore which link to this topic: 4, 41

Article 4 (implementation of the Convention)

Governments must do all they can to make sure every child can enjoy their rights by creating systems and passing laws that promote and protect children’s rights.

Article 41 (respect for higher national standards)

If a country has laws and standards that go further than the present Convention, then the country must keep these laws.

This week, we spoke about how on the 10th December 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. This important moment in human history is now remembered on that date every year and is known as Human Rights Day.

All children have the same human rights as adults. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child sets out the additional rights that all children have until the age of 18.

Children’s rights are human rights so we can celebrate them alongside the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Here is an activity you can do at home:

What does it mean when we say that rights are universal, unconditional, inherent, indivisible and inalienable? UNICEF UK resource, ABCDE of Rights, might help. Pick one concept to create a poster for display, to share what this means to you as children and young people in your school community.

Premier Education Christmas Holiday Camps at Avanti Fields

Secondary News

 Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE)

We are delighted to announce that from 1st December 2024, Avanti Fields School is an officially licensed centre of The Duke of Edinburgh’s award (DofE)! We listened to your feedback, which is that many parents/carers and students would like to do the DofE Award at our school, and from September onwards undertook the necessary steps to become a licensed centre. The DofE Award is an opportunity for young people to learn new skills, volunteer to enrich society, and go on an expedition that will test their outdoor camping skills! The Award is going to be launched to Year 9 students at the end of January – all information about enrolment, how the award works and equipment needed will be explained then.

Christmas Jumper Day

Students who wish to take part in Christmas Jumper Day need to bring £1 towards charity for save the children. Students who do not wish to take part needs to come in normal school uniform.

1. Students must wear school uniform on the bottom half, with a Christmas jumper on the top.
2. Students can wear a plain t-shirt underneath, but jumpers must be kept on around school.
3. Students do not need to wear their school blazers.
4. They can accessorise with Xmas accessories.
5. If students are wearing anything else that does not comply with the rules, will be issued a C2 by their form tutors

Lost property display

We  have arranged lost property display on Monday 9th December between 3:30pm to 4:00pm outside of Reception area. Students are welcome to claim their lost properties from the display. Any left over properties will stay with school in designated lost and found room until Friday 13th December, rest unclaimed lost properties will be donated to charities.

Padlocks for Assigned Lockers

We kindly request that your child has a suitable padlock for their assigned locker and follows the below key points:

-Students should only use their allocated locker number (they have been given this by their tutor at the start of the year and reminded last half term but can ask their tutors for support).

-We recommend purchasing a padlock that comes with two keys – one to be kept at home for safekeeping.

-Do not give their keys to any other student

-A 6mm shackle diameter will ensure the padlock is thick enough to be locked correctly.

All students should ensure they have a padlock for their assigned locker after Christmas. It is particularly important for all Year 11 students to have a padlock in place for their mock exams.

Thank you for your support and understanding.

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
