Principals Update

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mr Aganga-Williams for his promotion to Duke Of Edinburgh Manager. His role will assist in managing and administering the DofE Award for our school. A significant part of his role, as this is a new initiative for us, will be to launch our first Bronze Award alongside Mr Khabra next week to our Year 9 pupils.

Over the next few weeks, we have our second set of primary parents evenings, Year 8 parent evening, and Year 9 options evening planned. In addition to this, Ms Kholia will be running a virtual KS3 information meeting on Tuesday 28 January (4pm-5pm) with a focus on the new KS3 reports.

The PTFA held their annual general meeting (AGM) last Sunday, 19 January, however were unable to elect their committee this year due to confusion on the nomination process. The school is working with the PTFA to help resolve these concerns. Further information around an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) will be shared with our community in the next week or so.

ADVANCE NOTICE: The school will be closed to pupils (except Y11 students attending their mock exams) on Friday 14th February for a staff INSET day.

Parents evening

Reminder: Parents evenings will take place on the 28th January and 30th January.

Pre-school: This week in Pre-school we have been reading Handa’s suprise. We have discussed the similarities and differences between us in Leicester and children in Kenya. We designed our own t-shirts inspired by African prints and have taken on the role as a Maasai warriors with our beaded necklaces and red clothing. We have loved exploring different parts of the World using the globe and identifying Kenya and Leicester on the World map.

Reception: This week Reception have been learning about comparing different lengths. We compared ourselves to objects and people around us to determine if they are taller or shorter than us. Can you find something that is taller or shorter than you?

Year 1: Bluebells & Snowdrops had such a fun time at Rockingham Castle this week! Did you know the building is over 900 years old, and people still live in it today? We learnt all about the lives of King Richard and King William, tried on soldiers helmets, and visited different places in the castle such as The Gallery! Have you ever visited a castle before?

Year 2:  This week children dived into the beauty of global art! They compared the storytelling of Australia’s Aboriginal art with the vibrant patterns of Africa’s Tinga Tinga. Inspired, they created their own masterpieces—what would you create using just dots?

Stars of the week

All pupils who were a star of the week joined the ‘top table’ for lunch. A huge well done to: ……..

RRSA Article of the Week

Article of the Week – Rights Respecting Schools Award (unicef.org.uk)

RRSA Articles of the Week

Week 3: Respect for Children’s views

Articles which link to this topic: 12

Article 12 – Every child has the right to express their views, feelings and wishes in all matters affecting them, and to have their views considered and taken seriously. This right applies at all times, for example during immigration proceedings.

This week, we focused on the ‘duty bearers’ who respect children’s views. We spoke about how duty bearers have our best interests, and how they help us reach our full potential.

Here is a linked activity you can do at home:

Think about what your face looks like when you like something, when you don’t like something, or when you are scared or excited. Can you tell how someone else is feeling by looking at their facial expressions? How can we ‘hear’ people even when they don’t speak so that we can respect their views

Every week, children will be learning about an ‘Article of the Week’. This will help our children to learn and develop an understanding about the Convention on the Rights of the Child articles. Please help them learn this Article of the Week, and what this means.

Absence

Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
