Statement from Mike Younger, Chair of Avanti Schools Trust Board
As parents, pupils and staff are aware, Avanti Schools Trust (AST) has recently consulted on the long-term structures for Avanti Gardens School.
Following this period of consultation, proposals changing the age ranges at the school were put to the Regional Schools Commissioner (RSC) for the South West for decision, in line with the published significant change guidance.
The RSC has approved our proposal to change the age range at Avanti Gardens School from 4 to 16 to 4 to 11 with effect from September 2020, I am keen to ensure that we support the pupils and families directly affected, to mitigate the uncertainty and the concerns which will inevitably arise from this decision. To this end I have asked our Hub Director to work closely with Bristol LA to facilitate the smooth transfer of pupils to other local schools between now and the beginning of the new academic year. I would also like to thank staff and parents in the school for their continued patience and resilience whilst this painful process has been carried through. I hope that this decision will now allow us to move forward with more certainty and to plan coherently for the future, to ensure that Avanti Gardens becomes an outstanding Avanti primary school.
A spokesperson from Bristol City Council said ‘We recognise that this will be a difficult time for pupils and families affected by the decision. Council officers will work closely with Avanti Trust to secure alternative school places for pupils and try to minimise any disruption to pupils’ education.’
