This information is based on the requirements of the SEND Code of Practice, September 2015

How does the school know if my child needs extra help and what should I do if I think my child may have SEND?

• Initially contact the class teacher to discuss any concerns

• The school assesses student’s needs using:

How will the staff at Avanti support my child?

• Class teacher

• Scaffolded high quality teaching in lessons (Wave 1)

• Targeted support in class (Wave 2)

• Small group intervention work involving specialised lessons from Teaching Assistants (Wave 3)

How will I know how my child is doing?

• Tracking and reporting data from termly PIPs

• Parents’ meetings and consultations

• Regular contact with class teacher or SEND team

• Annual Review for students with an EHC Plan

How will the learning and development provision be matched to my child’s needs?

· Regular assessment

· Planning and scaffolding by subject teachers and leaders

· Pastoral mentoring

· Monitoring of progress

What support will there be for my child’s overall well-being?

· Class teacher

· PHSE programme

· Positive relationships with parents, school and students

· Mentoring

· Wider outcomes: extracurricular activities

· Yoga

· Meditation

What training have the staff at Avanti been given or are receiving in order to support children with SEND?

· As all teachers are teachers of SEND, they will have access to appropriate and regular training

· Avanti Institute CPD including SEND input

How will you help me to support my child in their learning? How will I be involved in the discussion?

• Parental Consultation

• Contact with SEND team, where appropriate

How will my child be included in activities outside the classroom, including school trips?

• Appropriate provision and reasonable adjustments will be made where necessary

• Medical support in place where necessary

How accessible is the school environment?

• All Hertfordshire schools comply with Equality Act 2010

• Accessibility Plan available on request
