Special Education Needs (SEND)
What are Special Educational Needs and/ or Disabilities?
Usually called SEND, this means that a child has needs that are different from or additional to the majority of children of their age, in order to achieve their full potential. This could be for a number of reasons and here at Avanti Gardens, we support these needs in a variety of ways, based on a child’s individual needs.
What is a Special Educational Needs and/ or Disability?
Under the ‘Equality Act 2010’ a disability is defined as a physical or mental impairment that has a ‘substantial’ and ‘long-term’ negative effect on your ability to do normal daily activities.
At Avanti Gardens School, we consider the individual needs of each child and work together with Parents/ Carers and the child to provide the right support, to the best of our ability. This could be for a short period, or for longer. Not all children with SEN are disabled, and not all disabled children have SEN. We follow the guidance in the SEND Code of Practice (2015), to ensure we are doing all that we can to meet the needs of our pupils.
How do we support our pupils with Special Educational Needs and/ or Disabilities?
Additional information about the way we identify and support our pupils can be found in the SEND Policy and Information report. These documents set out to help Parents/ Carers to understand what we do to support our SEND children and how this is implemented each day, including the kind of support that we are able to provide.
