Avanti Fields School, the new all-through Hindu school opening in Leicester in September 2018 has appointed Emma Taplin as Principal. Building on the success of its sister primary school, Krishna Avanti, the secondary school will not only fulfil demand but provide much needed secondary capacity in the City.
Last year the School acquired a part of the Manor Farm site in Thurmaston Lane, Hamilton, where a brand new, state-of-the-art school will be built to educate over 1300 pupils aged 3-16 and provide a high quality hub for the wider community. The School however, will open its doors to Year 7 children using the old Bede Campus on Narborough Road as a temporary site for two years.
Usha Sahni OBE, Education Director for Avanti Schools Trust said, ‘we are delighted with the appointment of Emma. Emma has been in education for 25 years and she returns to the City where she began her teaching career. Emma is currently Vice Principal at Thomas Deacon Academy, Peterborough, an all through provider and one of the largest schools in the country. Emma brings great experience leading a range of teams, across the breadth of subject areas and has specialised in developing learning and teaching, curriculum innovation and school improvement. Emma is a good fit for the Avanti ethos.’
The Avanti Schools Trust currently run a family of 6 schools in London and the Midlands which are built upon the pillars of Educational Excellence, Character Formation and Spiritual Insight. The schools, including Krishna Avanti Primary in Leicester, have all received “good” Ofsted ratings and have been commended for outstanding behaviour and spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) provision. Recent GCSE results from Avanti House Secondary School (Harrow) have placed the school significantly above local and national benchmarks across the broad curriculum offered. It is the number one school in the country for progress made by disadvantaged children in maths while it is number 17 for maths overall. It is in the top 3% in the country for science, top 10% in the country for English. This template of success will be brought to Avanti Fields in Leicester
The Department for Education and Avanti Schools Trust are working with Leicester City Council to meet the increased demand for school places in the City. The opening date for the school, application process and the location of the temporary accommodation is to be confirmed shortly.
