Wb 20.1.20 – Today pupils enjoyed watching the Cinderella pantomime performed by West End in Schools theatre company. Please question children about the experience, asking what they enjoyed most and why. Also try to ask how it was different to the film version of Cinderella. Encourage pupils to reflect on the performance through writing, artwork, role play, etc.
This week in phonics we will be recapping last week’s phase 3 sounds and introducing the new sounds: ch, th, ng, ai. We will also learn the tricky words: we, be.
In literacy our focus story will be Cinderella. We will be describing the characters and using role play to retell and act out the story.
In maths we will focus on doubling numbers. We will begin with the concept of doubling objects, and then extend students to double numbers using a number line or by counting on in their head.
In topic we will be discussing and exploring healthy food choices and how to keep our bodies healthy.
Please remember to support children to learn their weekly spellings (click on spellings tab) and complete their weekly homework (click on homework tab) which is due to be uploaded onto EExAT next Monday.
Homework is an opportunity for children to engage in focused learning with parents. Please try to upload pictures/videos of children completing tasks; for multiple photos, try uploading one ‘photo collage’ if possible. Please do not upload screen shots from Pinterest/Google images, etc.
Please do homework in addition to your usual home learning based on our weekly focus areas as detailed above. If you are having trouble uploading through the EExAT app, please try accessing EExAT with your internet browser.
This week in phonics we will be recapping last week’s new phase 3 sounds and introducing the sounds: y, z, zz, qu, sh. We will also learn the tricky word: me.
In literacy our focus story will be Jack and the Beanstalk. We will be re-enacting the story, using adjectives to describe the characters, and sequencing story events in order.
In maths we will be consolidating finding one more and one less than a given number and introducing simple number sentences. We will also introduce subtraction and related vocabulary; less, taking away, minus.
In topic we will be exploring plant life cycles and using role play to act it out.
Please remember to support children to learn their weekly spellings (click on spellings tab).
We will now be setting weekly homework (click on homework tab) which will be due to be uploaded onto EExAT the following Monday. Please do this in addition to your usual home learning based on our weekly focus areas as detailed above.
We hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Christmas and New Year celebration. Welcome back to school for 2020!
This week in phonics we will be recapping all our phase 2 sounds and learning the new phase 3 sounds: j, v, w, x. We will also recap all our high frequency and tricky words.
In literacy our focus story will be The Gingerbread Man. We will explore the main themes and characters as we begin to learn about the way fairytales are structured.
We will also be making gingerbread playdough to mould into gingerbread men. Pupils will be mixing ingredients by hand; please inform us via the diary if your child has any intolerances to: flour, salt, ginger, cinnamon, vegetable oil.
In maths we will focus on the concepts of weight and capacity and develop our understanding and vocabulary around these.
We will also be introducing our new topic, Let’s Pretend. We will begin to use and decorate our new Fairytale Castle role play area. If you have any donations that you think may be helpful for us to add to our castle (materials/fabrics, costumes, props, toys, etc.), please send them in. Many thanks!
We are now beginning to set home spellings (click on spellings tab) for students to learn. Please help your child to read and write these words. Students will have 1 week to focus on spellings at home before they’re supported to write them in their spelling book the following Monday in class.
Please use these areas of focus to guide your home learning activities with children. PLEASE UPLOAD EVIDENCE OF HOME LEARNING ON EExAT; AIM FOR 1 OR 2 PIECES OF EVIDENCE EACH WEEK.
We would very much appreciate if you could add codes to each piece of uploaded evidence:
CI = child initiated (work that children do without being asked)
AD = adult directed (work that you have asked your child to complete)
I = independent (completed by the child without adult intervention)
WS = with support (completed with adult support).

WB 20.1.20 – Homework
This week we have been discussing healthy eating and healthy living.
Have a conversation with an adult about the importance of a healthy lifestyle; what does it look like and how do you stay healthy?
- Go on a hunt around your house and find a range of healthy and unhealthy items (food in the kitchen/ exercise equipment/ drinks, etc.). Can you sort them into healthy and unhealthy? You might choose to write/draw the things you find and how you have sorted them, or take a photo/video of how you carried out the task.
Due date: 27.1.20 (Please ensure that homework is uploaded as ‘evidence’ on EEXAT. If you are struggling with the EEXAT system, let us know and we can try to assist you)
WB 13.1.20 – Homework
- Design the beanstalk from Jack and the Beanstalk (drawing/painting/collage or photo of construction, etc.).
- Discuss what a seed or bean needs to grow. To show your understanding you might choose to:
- write sentences about your understanding of plant growth,
- draw pictures of the seed or bean lifecycle,
- act out the growth of a seed or bean and take photos or a short video.
Due date: 20.1.20 (Please ensure that homework is uploaded as ‘evidence’ on EEXAT. If you are struggling with the EEXAT system, let us know and we can try to assist you)
