Principals Update

This week we have started to launch a school-wide raffle to fundraise for a second minibus and to begin groundworks for our Forest School. I want to thank our PTFA and student leaders for organising this opportunity for the school. Further details can be found below.

Celebration Evening

Last night we had the pleasure of welcoming back our Year 11 leavers to distribute their GCSE certificates and also celebrate achievement across the school. This year we also invited pupils from last year’s Year 7 to 10 cohort to be recognised for the virtues they lived last year. We believe it is important for pupils in our younger years to have aspirations to be invited to this evening when they graduate and look forward to seeing their progress over the coming years.

  • Respect: Keshavi N, Harnum P, Tanveer W, Saachi R
  • Self-discipline: Eli P, Manaank P, Krishang C, Kushil P
  • Courage: Diya G, Keisha P, Koenna P, Dhvani S
  • Gratitude: Krishna T, Shivesh B, Priyanshi B, Rohan B
  • Empathy: Krishna G, Sanjeevan U, Pranjal M, Ria B
  • Integrity: Nihal P, Kanay P, Anjali G, Rudra K

For our GCSE leavers we recognised the following pupils for their Virtues: Akudzwa Z (Respect), Jai T (Self-discipline), Aksayan U (Courage), Ahaan K (Gratitude), Shuchika N (Empathy), Shiv B (Integrity).

We acknowledged and thanked last year’s Head Boy, Pawandeep S, and Head Girl, Anmol R, for their leadership as well as celebrating our GCSE highest attainers and those who made the most progress in their studies. Please join me in congratulating Shriti D, Vrishti M, Shaylan M, Keisha D, Harshiv G, Nishaan M, Shay R, Shashank M, Malwina F, Anjali R, Aksayan U, Annishka S, Heeba S, Jai T, Umair Z, Drashtee M, Mauli R, Isha P and Veda P.

The evening then presented our most significant awards, those for Educational Excellence, Character Formation and Spiritual Insight, as well as the Avanti Student of the Year Award. For these awards, we reflect on a pupils journey, from when they first join us until they leave us in Year 11. I would like to congratulate the following pupils:

  • Educational Excellence: Shruti D
  • Character Formation: Isha P
  • Spiritual Insight: Raksha S
  • Student of the Year: Vrishti M

RRSA Article of the Week

Every week, children will be learning about an ‘Article of the Week’. This will help our children to learn and develop an understanding about the Convention on the Rights of the Child articles.

Week 2: Anti-Bullying Week

Articles which link to this topic: 2,12,13,19

Article 12  – Every child has the right to express their views, feelings and wishes in all matters affecting them, and to have their views considered and taken seriously. This right applies at all times, for example during immigration proceedings, housing decisions or the child’s day-to-day home life.

Anti-bullying Week is held each year in November and is a time for all of us to think about how we can develop positive relationships in school based on dignity and respect, take a proactive approach to preventing bullying and also support people who have faced or are facing bullying. We spoke about what bullying is, how it can make people feel, and what we can do about it.

Here is a linked activity you can do at home:

Watch this video about Topsy and Tim helping their classmate. What is happening to Stevie? What do Topsy and Tim do to help? What would you do if you saw someone in your class being bullied.

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
