Principals Update

I want to take this opportunity to thank all staff at Avanti Fields for creating a wonderful Autumn term for our pupils. We have run numerous events this term to support wider pupil development, taken students on trips and visits and also held parent evenings to provide feedback on pupil learning.

I want to wish all families a restful and enjoyable festive period, and a prosperous new year.

House Points winners & Enterprise week winners

House Point Winners and Enterprise week winners: Air bounced their way to victory! Air won our house point competition this term, so they enjoyed bouncing on a bouncy castle slide. Buttercup class won the Enterprise competition, as they raised the most money in our Christmas Fayre, by baking some delicious cupcakes! After bouncing away, all the children spoke about the importance of WHY we follow our core values. They managed to get 75 house point balls in the jar this term! We are so proud of them!

Food Donation

Miss Savadia’s steering group just want to say a MASSIVE thank you to everyone for your generous food donations for our food donation drive! We feel very grateful for you all! #gratitude

Pre-school: This week in Pre-school we have been reading The Christmas story. We have been singing Christmas carols and writing our names in Christmas cards. We also learned about the symbol, book and candle in Christianity and Hinduism.

Reception: This week, Reception enjoyed a ‘Healthy Teeth’ workshop, by Becca and Lucy from the Healthy together team. We learnt that we must brush for 2 minutes, and we spit, not rinse. We practiced our brushing skills too, with our friend Mick’s teeth!

Year 1:  This week Year One children have been learning about seasons in science and writing their own versions of Stickman. They have had lots of fun celebrating Christmas at school.

Year 2: This week Year 2 have enjoyed finding out about the meaning of Christmas for Christians. They reflected on their visit to the local Church and were able to name the special features found in a Church and the purpose of these. We were very proud of how respectful the children were towards understanding that everyone is different. Alongside this, the children received a special visit from a Christian speaker during our assembly where they took part in an interactive explanation of The Nativity.

Stars of the week

All pupils who were a star of the week joined the ‘top table’ for lunch. A huge well done to: ……..

RRSA Article of the Week

Article of the Week – Rights Respecting Schools Award (unicef.org.uk)

Week 6 focus: Human Rights Day

Article’s you could explore which link to this topic: 4, 41

Article 4 (implementation of the Convention)

Governments must do all they can to make sure every child can enjoy their rights by creating systems and passing laws that promote and protect children’s rights.

Article 41 (respect for higher national standards)

If a country has laws and standards that go further than the present Convention, then the country must keep these laws.

This week, we spoke about how on the 10th December 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. This important moment in human history is now remembered on that date every year and is known as Human Rights Day.

All children have the same human rights as adults. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child sets out the additional rights that all children have until the age of 18.

Children’s rights are human rights so we can celebrate them alongside the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Here is an activity you can do at home:

What does it mean when we say that rights are universal, unconditional, inherent, indivisible and inalienable? UNICEF UK resource, ABCDE of Rights, might help. Pick one concept to create a poster for display, to share what this means to you as children and young people in your school community.

Padlocks for Assigned Lockers

We kindly request that your child has a suitable padlock for their assigned locker and follows the below key points:

-Students should only use their allocated locker number (they have been given this by their tutor at the start of the year and reminded last half term but can ask their tutors for support).

-We recommend purchasing a padlock that comes with two keys – one to be kept at home for safekeeping.

-Do not give their keys to any other student

-A 6mm shackle diameter will ensure the padlock is thick enough to be locked correctly.

All students should ensure they have a padlock for their assigned locker after Christmas. It is particularly important for all Year 11 students to have a padlock in place for their mock exams.

Thank you for your support and understanding.

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
