Principals Update

As we are nearing the end of the Spring term, I am looking back on the wonderful events, activities and experiences we have provided our pupils. I truly believe that we have an enriching curriculum that develops spiritually compassionate change makers. A big thank you to our staff who give up their time outside of school hours to support these.

I am pleased to announce that we have appointed our incoming Head Boy and Head Girl for next year. Our Year 10 pupils begin their leadership roles in the Summer term to allow their Year 11 counterparts to focus on their GCSE exams. Please join me in congratulating Jaison M (Head Boy), Smita P (Head Girl), Amrit R and Pranjal M (Deputies). I know they will do a fantastic job in leading our student body.

Home learning

As co-educators we want all parents and carers to engage with the home-learning offer we have for our pupils.

In addition to reading with your child and listening to them read on a daily basis, we have purchased a number of home-learning platforms for you to explore with your child.

Please ensure that you have logins for the below websites. This will enable you to access the full home-learning we have on offer at Avanti Fields. Please speak to your child’s class teacher if you have lost these logins.

The Discovery Education, Espresso platform is available for all pupils from Pre-school upwards. Each half term teachers will assign a learning board for your child to complete. This is also a great place to explore a variety of subjects through videos, activities and quizzes.

The numbots platform is available for pupils Reception upwards. It is a maths tool focussing on number, number bonds and place value as well as all four operations: addition, subtraction, division and multiplication! This is a great tool to engage your child in maths and develop their fluency and mental maths skills set.

Oxford Owl is a great platform to support your child’s reading development. Each week you child will be assigned an oxford owl e-book according to their reading level. This platform is for Reception pupils upwards.

On a weekly/ bi-weekly basis maths homework is set on My Maths for all children in KS1. This homework compliments the learning the children are doing at school and will help them develop confidence with the new concepts being taught. You can also access other areas that have not been assigned to take your child’s maths journey a step further!

Oxford reading buddy logins are given to all pupils who are at reading level 8 or above. This is predominantly assigned to Year 2 pupils who have surpassed grey level books. This platform has a wide range of e-books for your child to read and enjoy at their reading level.

Easter bonnet parade and competition: 9th April

Holi Festival Friday: 11th April

We will be holding a ‘festival of colours‘ event on 11th April at 2.00pm for Primary pupils. We would like all children to experience the traditions of Holi. As the event involves the throwing of powdered paint, we are kindly asking for all children to come in old clothes, preferably white to show all the colours. If your child is in uniform that day, they will not be able to participate.

Pre-school

Preschool children will also be participating as a class, there will be a morning session for all pupils that are morning only and then all other pupils will join the rest of the school at 2pm. Please note: If your child is in uniform that day, they will not be able to participate.

Donations: If you would like to donate some Holi powder or donate £1 for the event, please hand this into your class teacher.

 Earth Day Celebration:

We will be celebrating Earth Day at school with the children on Monday 28th April. Children will participate by dressing up for Earth Day and joining in with activities in class. We kindly ask parents for donations of bedding plants/ bulbs which children can plant with their class on Earth Day. Please pass on donations to your child’s class teacher on Monday 28th April.

You can also participate in the ‘Seed Library’ scheme which is currently donating free seeds to all their Leicester City library members. Show your support by collecting a seed and donating it for children to plant on Earth Day.

Pre-school:This week Pre-school have been exploring materials and identifying if they are rough or smooth. We found a rough brick wall and a smooth green leaf. We felt the roughness of bark on an enormous tree, it had so many bumps! What rough and smooth items can you find in your house?

Reception:This week Reception have enjoyed engaging in their Gymnastics Session with Sam! They have been learning how to follow a sequence of patterns, and how to do different types of rolls. They have been practicing their balancing skills too!

Year 1:This week, Year 1 have been improving their musical skills by singing songs and playing different instruments. They have been focussing on making gentle sounds when playing their instruments so they sing along to songs in a harmony.

Year 2:Year 2 had a blast in our nutrition session! We explored vitamins, minerals, fibres, proteins & dairy—then got creative making rainbow salads and funky sandwiches  Healthy eating has never been this fun! What is your favourite fruit or vegetable?

Stars of the week

All pupils who were a star of the week joined the ‘top table’ for lunch. A huge well done to: ……..

RRSA Article of the Week

Article of the Week – Rights Respecting Schools Award (unicef.org.uk)

RRSA Articles of the Week

Week 6: Freedom of thought and religion

Article’s you could explore which link to this topic: 14

Article 14 – Every child has the right to think and believe what they choose and also to practise their religion, as long as they are not stopping other people from enjoying their rights. Governments must respect the rights and responsibilities of parents to guide their child as they grow up.

This week, we spoke about how we all have freedom of speech, and we learnt about how facts differ from opinions, recapping our previous learning. We spoke about how we are all incredible human beings, and how we have diverse backgrounds that make us who we are!

Here is a linked activity you can do at home:

Many religious stories help us to understand the importance of being kind and respectful and of looking after each other. Can you create your own story and characters to illustrate these important values?

Every week, children will be learning about an ‘Article of the Week’. This will help our children to learn and develop an understanding about the Convention on the Rights of the Child articles. Please help them learn this Article of the Week, and what this means.

Girls in Computing

On 2nd April 2025 we held a ‘Girls in Computing’ event for some of our year 9 girls. The event was lead by Jaspal Singh, Programme Director for NXT Gen Innovators. The aim of the event was to give the girls an insight into the barriers to women and girls choosing careers in the field of computing and technology and researching all the wonderful opportunities in this field.

The girls were all engaged in and enjoyed the interactive activities, as well as the competitive element of the session. Speaking to students the feedback was very positive. They felt inspired to do well in computing as well as potentially seek a career in this area.

The final task was to come up with an innovative idea for a new product and create a presentation in teams to explain the need for the product, what it does and the impact and benefits. All the groups delivered excellent presentations and the winners each received £10 Amazon vouchers.

A big well done to those who took part.

Head Boy & Head Girl

Congratulations to the following students on the success of their new roles. A heartfelt well done to all the prefects that applied and sat the interviews – you were all so inspiring!

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
