Principals Update
Have we only been back for a week? And what a week it has been! Our Year 11 pupils have completed their second week of mock exams. This is their final opportunity to practice exam techniques and get valuable feedback from their teachers. A selection of our Year 10 pupils have met with various faith leaders twice this week in preparation for attending a city wide event next week. Year 9 pupils and their parents attended their parent evening, and have now submitted their GCSE options forms for next year. And finally, our reception pupils visited the Gurdwara and engaged in seva (please see photos later in the bulletin). In addition to all that our pupils did, I had the honour of being a guest speaker at an International Women’s Day event coordinated by the St Phillips Centre and the Methodist Church Northampton District.
Tonight we have our PTFA EGM. If you would like to attend, the meeting will begin at 6:30pm.

Pre-school: Our topic this term in Pre-school is ‘people who help us’. We have loved exploring the roles of a Vet and Doctor in our role play corners, treating the ill patients that attend the surgery. In Maths, we have been exploring 2D shapes and using language such as sides and corners to describe them. We have been searching for shapes in our classroom to apply our knowledge. What shapes can you find at home?
Reception: This week, Reception visited the Gurudwara to make sandwiches for the Homeless people, in partnership with Midlands Langar Seva. We learnt about the importance of self-less service, and we made wishes in a beautiful place of worship.
Year 1: This week Year One children are reading the story of Paddington and retelling the story. We have also been researching significant individuals in History and have learnt about Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III.
Year 2: We have been learning all about absorbency and different materials! We explored which materials are best for making wellies and discovered what “waterproof” means. We even learned about the inventor of wellies, Arthur Wellesley, the Duke of Wellington! We are scientists in action!

Article 31(Leisure, Play and Culture) – Every child has the right to relax, play and take part in a wide range of cultural and artistic activities.
This week, we focused on the part in the article which alludes to the fact that children have the right to take part in a wide range of cultural and artistic activities. We also discussed other national days we have celebrated e.g. NSPCC Number Day, Red Nose Day or BBC Children in Need.
Here is a linked activity you can do at home:
Draw a picture of the cover, of your favourite book. Can you annotate it and describe what you can see?
Every week, children will be learning about an ‘Article of the Week’. This will help our children to learn and develop an understanding about the Convention on the Rights of the Child articles. Please help them learn this Article of the Week, and what this means.

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.
All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.
The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.
This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
