Principals Update

I want to thank all of our staff and pupils for another wonderful term at Avanti Fields. Their continual commitment to teaching and learning is fantastic to see. When we return after the Easter break, we will be welcoming back Mrs Devalia from maternity leave, and also looking forward to Mrs Parekh joining the Science team.

To end the term, I would like to offer a very big thank you to my senior leadership and admin teams. This term has been particularly busy with lots of school visits, guests and school activities. They all work so well together to ensure the smooth running of the school, organising cover and calendars and just ensuring that they are checking in on their teams and staff. It is highly appreciated and doesn’t go unnoticed by the staff and pupils they work most closely with.

Wishing our entire community a restful and refreshing Easter holidays. I hope the sun remains shining for the break and look forward to welcoming you all back on 28th April.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we reach the end of another school term, I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support, partnership, and trust. It has been a term filled with learning, growth, and memorable moments, and your involvement has played a vital role in making it all possible.

Your children have worked incredibly hard, and we are proud of the progress they’ve made – both academically and personally. From classroom achievements to extracurricular successes, it has been inspiring to watch their confidence grow and their curiosity thrive.

We’re grateful for the strong home-school connection that helps create a positive and supportive learning environment. Whether it’s been helping with homework, attending events, or simply encouraging your child each day, your efforts make a big difference.

We wish you a restful and enjoyable break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for the new term ahead.

Kindest regards,

Ms. Thakore

Attendance and House Point Winners

Earth won our house point competition this term, and Tulip Class were the attendance winners who reached Neptune this term, so Miss Savadia organised for them to make some chocolate cornflake cakes. Can you believe Earth managed to get 30 balls in the jar. We are so proud of them for consistently showing the core values! Before engaging in this delicious activity, all of the children spoke about the importance of WHY we follow our core values, and they spoke about how they felt so proud.

Spring 2 celebration of learning

Pre-School – Spring Summary

What a wonderful Spring term we’ve had in Pre-school with so many happy memories! We have been lucky to have special visitors come in to bring our learning to life. Jungle Jo visited with her friends and taught us how to care for different animals. We showed respect and empathy by using kind hands and courage by holding the different creatures. Did you know snail slime is really good for our skin?

To support our exploration of jobs and people who help us, the Police service visited, bringing along their amazing vehicle! The Police Officers explained the different ways they help people, such as helping people if they are in an accident and helping people follow the rules so that everyone is safe and happy. We were very excited to explore the police car and were fascinated by the siren, lights, and equipment in the car.

In Understanding the World, we have been developing our knowledge of plants and life cycles. We planted cress seeds and made sure to care for our plants by giving them water and putting them in the sun. In Art and Design, we have been working on drawing with detail and have been painting and drawing observations of different plants. We have also been strengthening our writing by labelling parts of the plant.

Reception – Spring Summary

What a joyful and exciting Spring Term we’ve had in Reception, full of learning, creativity, and unforgettable memories! From festivals to forest friends, we’ve packed so much into the last few months.

This term, we have celebrated Gaura Purnima, learnt about the significance of this beautiful festival and enjoyed the joy and colour it brings; we washed our Deities, and we sang beautiful songs to worship them. Our understanding of different cultures deepened as we also explored the celebrations of Ramadan, Vaisakhi, and Holi—each one bringing with it a rich blend of stories, traditions, and values. We have also celebrated NSPCC Number Day, and World Book Day this term.

One of the most exciting days was when Jungle Jo visited us! We had the amazing opportunity to meet and learn about some fascinating animals up close. There were so many smiles, wide eyes, and brave hands as we discovered the wonders of the animal kingdom. We also had the Dinosaur women come in, who taught us about herbivores, omnivores and carnivores, and fossils!

In our creative sessions, we explored collaging and had so much fun during our Art Workshop, where we used Posca Pens to design and decorate a triceratops or t-rex, with bright, bold patterns. Everyone’s artistic flair really shone through!

We also embraced the beauty of the outdoors during our Spring Walk, taking in the sights and sounds of the season and noticing all the signs of new life blossoming around us. It was a lot warmer than our Autumn walk!

In Maths, we have been working hard and building confidence. We’ve been consolidating our number bonds to 10, strengthening our knowledge of one more and one less, and practising addition and subtraction in practical ways.

A very special moment this term was our visit to the Gurudwara, where we learned about the importance of Seva—selfless service. It was a heart warming experience that reminded us of the value of kindness and community.

It’s been a term full of discovery, joy, and growth. We’re so proud of all that we’ve achieved together and are already looking forward to what the next term brings!

Year 1 – Spring Summary

This term, Year 1 have taken part in lots of exciting activities such as reading week, Jungle Jo, the house point event, the Easter bonnet parade and Holi!

Year 1 have been improving on their skills and knowledge in a variety of subjects. They have been improving on their bat and ball skills and working on their accuracy when using the bats/rackets to hit a ball or bean bag into a target. They have been learning how to use algorithms to program a toy. In DT, they have been learning how to make a structure stronger by using wafer biscuits to build a house and using icing sugar as ‘cement’!

This term, the children have also been developing their writing skills by writing for a range of purposes e.g. fact files and narrative writing. Can you write a fact file of a famous person in history or even your favourite animal?

Year 2 – Spring Summary

Year 2 have wrapped up the Spring term learning all about Greta Thunberg and her inspiring mission to protect our planet. We even made posters to show our support!
One small change can make a big difference — what will you do to help the Earth? ✨

All pupils who were a star of the week joined the ‘top table’ for lunch. A huge well done to: ……..

RRSA Article of the Week

RRSA Articles of the Week

Week 7: Earth Day

Article’s you could explore which link to this topic: 6 and 24

Article 24 (health and healthcare services) – Every child has the right to the best possible health. Governments must provide good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food, and a clean environment and education on health and well-being so that children can stay healthy. Richer countries must help poorer countries achieve this.

This week we explored Earth Day. Earth Day takes place every year on April 22 to show support for the protection of the environment and our planet. Since 1970, Earth Day has brought together people, governments and companies from around the world, supporting them to do something positive for the environment. We discussed how it promotes the fact that ‘change starts with action’ and we can all take action and encourage others to take action that positively impacts on the world around us.

Here is a linked activity you can do at home:

Watch or read Marli’s Tangled Tale by children’s author Ellie Jackson about the impact of plastic waste on a family of puffins or read one of the other books in the series. Consider the impact of balloons and other plastic waste on wildlife in the sea, how could we prevent this?

Every week, children will be learning about an ‘Article of the Week’. This will help our children to learn and develop an understanding about the Convention on the Rights of the Child articles. Please help them learn this Article of the Week, and what this means.

Computer Science Enrichment Opportunity – Generative AI

We were excited to introduce the year 10 Computer Science groups to Generative AI (Gen AI) in an engaging and age-appropriate lesson. It was delivered by Dr. Monika Solanki, a Principal Consultant – Data & AI at Accenture UK and also a registered STEM Ambassador and Tech We Can Champion.

Generative AI is a type of artificial intelligence that can create text, images, and even music based on patterns it has learned. The goal was to help students understand how AI works, its real-world applications, and how to use it responsibly.

During the session in the computer science lesson they:

✅ Explained AI in simple terms using fun, interactive examples

✅ Showed how AI can assist with creativity and problem-solving

✅ Discussed the ethical considerations, such as misinformation and responsible AI use

Generative AI is shaping the future of work, opening up exciting careers in AI development, creative AI design, and even AI ethics and policy. Students who develop an interest in AI today could become the innovators of tomorrow, working in fields like robotics, game design, and digital art.

This lesson was designed to be educational, safe, and inspiring, encouraging curiosity while fostering critical thinking about technology.

 Pilgrimage yatra to India

Namaste and Hare Krishna dear parents,

☀️We are excited to announce our 3rd annual pilgrimage to India during the Oct half term holidays.☀️

This time, the yatra is going to Mayapur and Jagannatha Puri for 12 nights, during the auspicious month of Kartik!

Mayapur is the birth place of Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and is home to the largest Hindu temple in the world – The temple of the Vedic Planetarium! It’s right on the banks of the Holy Ganga river and many wonderful temples. Jagannatha Puri is home to the very ancient deities of Jagannatha, Baladeva and Subhadra Devi, amongst many other sacred places. It is also a famous beach holiday destination.

We will also visit the world renowned Konark Sun temple and one of the 12 main Jyotirlingas, the Bhuvaneśvara’s Lingaraj deity of Lord Shiva!

These trips are catered for families of young and old, with something for everyone. We will be staying in the best accommodation possible in Mayapur and a 4 star hotel, right on the beach in Jagannatha Puri Dham! All meals are freshly prepared, to the highest standards and most dietary requirements can be catered for!

This year, we have a very special offer on for teenagers to come on the trip without their families, incase their families can’t attend.  We want to facilitate their spiritual and illuminating experience in these holy places, during this vulnerable and impressionable time of their life.

Both the yatra trip leaders are DBS checked and have been teaching for the past decade. Teenagers will be able to join the trip for half the normal price!

The early bird prices end on April 31st for Avanti parents, so don’t delay if you are interested!

Checkout the attached poster and this Google form link for more info and to sign up: https://forms.gle/nGR28VKwHqrCZpeaA

You can also email [email protected] for any questions or queries.

Looking forward to this spiritual journey with you and making a lifetime of sacred memories!

Thank you,

Kishori and Birju Jani

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
