Principals Update

 In love and memory

We were deeply saddened to hear about recent plane crash in India, which has affected many families and communities. In times like these, it is important that we come together to support one another with kindness, understanding, and empathy.

At Avanti, we are guided by values that encourage us to act with compassion, gratitude, and integrity. These principles remind us of the importance of caring for each other, especially when members of our wider community are experiencing loss and grief.

We also take comfort in the timeless wisdom of Lord Krishna, who reminds us:

Perform your duty with compassion and without attachment to the outcome.

Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 2, Verse 47

This verse encourages us to continue doing good for others, not for reward, but because it is the right thing to do.

Let us continue to uphold the values of the Avanti Way—acting with love, supporting one another, and staying united through difficult times.

 Communication and connection: feedback opportunity

Effective communication and open dialogue are at the heart of everything we do. We recognise the importance of continuously improving how we connect, share information and engage with you.

To support this effort, we kindly ask you to complete a short survey linked here:

https://avanti.wufoo.com/forms/communication-and-connection-feedback/

Your responses will help us better understand your preferences and needs, enabling us to develop more effective and meaningful communications strategies.

The survey will only take 2 minutes to complete, and your input is invaluable in shaping our future approach.

Silver Rights Respecting School Award

As you know, we began our Rights Respecting Schools journey last year. Miss Savadia is delighted to share the exciting news that we have now been awarded the Silver Rights Respecting School Award! We had our accreditation visit on 11.06.25, and the assessor was so impressed with the children’s knowledge of their rights and how deeply embedded the language of rights is across our school community. They noted how clearly our commitment to children’s rights is lived and felt throughout the school – something we are all incredibly proud of. This achievement is a reflection of the strong partnership between school and home. Thank you for supporting us and for helping to nurture a culture where every child’s rights are understood, respected, and celebrated. We could not have reached this milestone without you.

Being a Silver Accredited Rights Respecting School means that we are explicitly embedding the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in our policy; practice and culture.
We are promoting knowledge and understanding of the Convention throughout our school community:
We are putting into action and developing the plans outlined on our Action Plan for Silver, which we submitted to achieve Bronze: Rights Committed.
We are beginning to see the positive impact of these actions on children and young people, staff, and on our school’s ethos, practice and environment.
Children and young people are beginning to see themselves as rights respecting global citizens and advocates for fairness and children’s rights, both locally and globally.

An exciting week for Reception children!

This week, Reception went on a very exciting adventure to the Great Central Railway – and what a fantastic time we had!

Our journey began with lots of excitement as we arrived at the railway, ready to step back in time. We learnt that the train stations we visited were first developed all the way back in 1899! It was amazing to imagine what it must have been like over 100 years ago. One of the highlights of our day was exploring the Diesel Multiple Unit. We got to take a good look inside and see how it works. Some of us pretended to be drivers, passengers, and ticket inspectors — it was so much fun! We also found out about the Quorn Straight, a special part of the railway line. It’s a very long stretch of track near Loughborough that barely has any bends at all. We stood and watched the trains whizz down it – they went so fast! It was a day full of learning, exploring, and imagining. We all came back to school full of stories and smiles. What an incredible way to bring our learning to life!

Reception: This week, Reception went on a very exciting adventure to the Great Central Railway – and what a fantastic time we had!

Year 1: This week, Year 1 have been using their geography skills to research hot and cold locations. They learnt about what the equator was and from this they investigated which countries were known as hot, cold and even countries which had a temperate climate. They even investigated what it was like to live in the North and South Pole!

Year 2: In our topic lessons this week, Year 2 have been exploring Geography with a focus on developing their map skills. The children have enjoyed using a compass to navigate around our local area and a map of the school. They’ve even learnt a fun phrase to help them remember the four main compass points: Never Eat Silly Worms!

RRSA Articles of the Week

Week 2: Sharing thoughts freely

Article’s you could explore which link to this topic: 13, 14

Article 13 (Sharing thoughts freely) – This article emphasises the importance of the right to freedom of expression, which children and young people have like everyone else.

This week, we focused on our voices, and how our different voices are heard in school.

In school, we get to choose which provision we access, which equipment we want to play with outside, which books we read, and which lunch band we get. We spoke about how our voices are heard, and valued.

Here is a linked activity that you can do at home:

In this video, 11 year-old Simran shows you a Gurdwara, the Sikh place of worship.  Religions often have a special place where people come together to worship.  What others can you find out about?

Every week, children will be learning about an ‘Article of the Week’. This will help our children to learn and develop an understanding about the Convention on the Rights of the Child articles. Please help them learn this Article of the Week, and what this means.

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
