Principals Update

Yesterday we welcomed our new colleagues for next year for their Induction Day. We hosted colleagues joining us at both Avanti Fields and Krishna Avanti for a hub-wide introduction, and then staff moved to work with their respective teams later in the afternoon. To support a thorough induction for primary colleagues, we are hosting 2 additional induction days.

I am also looking forward to attending the Year 11 Prom tonight and then celebrating at the city-wide Ratha Yatra festival on Sunday. I hope to see some of you at both of these events. If you’ve never had an opportunity to attend the Leicester Festival of Chariots, I would strongly recommend checking it out!  (Further details provided below).

On 2nd July, we will be welcoming our incoming Year 7 pupils for their transition day and have a number of transition/moving up dates planned for our primary pupils to begin getting ready to their new learning environments and teachers for next year.

 Communication and connection: feedback opportunity

Thank you to those families that have taken time last week to complete our communication and connection survey. We will be leaving the survey open until Wednesday next week for final feedback.

Effective communication and open dialogue are at the heart of everything we do. We recognise the importance of continuously improving how we connect, share information and engage with you.

To support this effort, we kindly ask you to complete a short survey linked here:

https://avanti.wufoo.com/forms/communication-and-connection-feedback/

Your responses will help us better understand your preferences and needs, enabling us to develop more effective and meaningful communications strategies.

The survey will only take 2 minutes to complete, and your input is invaluable in shaping our future approach.

Primary News

A Wonderful Week!

It’s been a lovely and positive week here at school. All the children had the exciting opportunity to meet their new class teachers, and it was fantastic to see so many smiling faces and growing confidence as they spent time getting to know them. This first step in the transition process has helped ease any nerves and build excitement for the year ahead. To continue supporting the children with this change, we will be holding another transition afternoon next week. This will give pupils further time to settle in, connect with their new classmates, and feel even more comfortable with their new learning environment.

Best regards,

Ms. A Thakore

Year 2 go to the beach!

This summer term, Year 2 pupils enjoyed a wonderful trip to Skegness to support their current topic ‘Beside the Seaside’ and to celebrate their fantastic SATs results. The children and staff spent a joyful day at the beach, soaking up the sunshine, building sandcastles, exploring the natural environment and enjoying delicious ice cream. It was a truly enriching experience, enabling them to develop their intellectual, moral and spiritual growth alongside rewarding the children’s hard work and resilience throughout the year. A great day out was had by all – full of laughter, learning, and lasting memories

 Breakfast club:

We are excited to invite your child to join our brand-new Breakfast Club, which successfully launched this term at Avanti Fields. The club runs every weekday from 7:30am, offering a warm and welcoming start to the school day.

Children attending the club will receive a healthy breakfast and have the opportunity to enjoy board games, puzzles and other fun activities with friends before lessons begin. This provision is completely free of charge and families are welcome to book as many days as they wish.

To sign up, simply log in to the clubs section in your Arbor account and select the days you would like your child to attend.

We hope this new initiative will support your child’s well-being and help them start each day positively and ready to learn.

Primary Phase: Fruit Ice lollies sale

We are excited to let you know that fruit ice-lollies will be on sale for £1 each at the end of the school day from Monday the 23rd of June. This is a great way to enjoy a refreshing treat while supporting our school community. Please note that sales will be cash only. All money raised will go directly towards purchasing new school resources to enhance learning experiences for our students.

Thank you for your continued support!

Pre-school: This week, Pre-school have loved igniting their creative flair by collaging colourful mermaid tails and painting beautiful blue oceans, exploring a range of light and dark shades. We’ve also been learning all about ladybirds – their features and fascinating life cycle. During outdoor learning, the children have been especially excited to spot real-life ladybird chrysalises and even some fully grown ladybirds!

Reception: We’ve been diving into the amazing world of doubling in Maths! We’ve been busy learning how to double numbers all the way up to 10 — and it’s been so much fun! Now it’s your turn… are you a doubling expert?

Year 1:  we’ve been cooking healthy foods with a variety of vegetables! We have learned two different ways to chop using a knife; we practised using a bridge grip and a claw grip. Can you make a healthy snack at home for someone you love using your knife skills?‍

Year 2: This week, Year 2 had an amazing time discovering Graffiti style of art. They used special Posca paint pens and large fonts to create different words and emotions! It was amazing! Look at our amazing work!

Week 3: World Refugee Day

Article 22 – (Refugee children) If a child is seeking refuge or has refugee status, governments must provide them with appropriate protection and assistance to help them enjoy all the rights in the Convention. Governments must help refugee children who are separated from their parents to be reunited with them.

The focus surrounding this Article is World Refugee Day. World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the United Nations to honour refugees around the globe. It falls each year on June 20 and celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. Children will learn about possible events that might lead to children and their families becoming refugees such as natural disasters, family disputes or problems, changes in weather and droughts/famine which leads to a lack of food and water.

Here is a linked activity you can do at home:

Watch this video explaining what a refugee is. Can you create your own film or a simple PowerPoint presentation to help other children in your school understand what it means to be refugee?

Every week, children will be learning about an ‘Article of the Week’. This will help our children to learn and develop an understanding about the Convention on the Rights of the Child articles. Please help them learn this Article of the Week, and what this means.

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
