Principals Update

We have had a busy few weeks with internal recruitment and final external recruitment. We will be starting the year with a near-fully staffed school at secondary and a fully staffed primary. I would like to congratulate the following staff on starting their next steps into middle leadership. Miss Chande (who was interviewed about a month ago), will be stepping into the Key Stage Lead in English role next year. Mrs Pancholi will be leading the Computing, Business Studies and Economics area as Head of Department and Dr Mockford will be starting a new leadership role of Collective Worship and Festival Lead next academic year alongside his teaching assistant role. We also have two incoming staff who will be joining us in middle leadership roles; Mr Modha will step into the Head of PRE Department role, and Mr Santamaria will be joining us as Head of Year 7 next year.

This week our primary pupils celebrated Ratha Yatra on Wednesday and our secondary pupils continued the festivities on Thursday. I’ve also had the pleasure of attending the Krishna Avanti Ratha Yatra festival today.

Finally, last night we hosted our annual Sports Awards Evening, led my Mrs Kansara. It was again a wonderful showcase of the extra curricular offer we have for our pupils. I would like to congratulate all the students who attended – their nominations in each category are a testament to the time and dedication they give to their sport. Please see later in the bulletin a full article on the Sports Awards Evening.

Uniform Donation

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope this message finds you well.

As part of our ongoing commitment to support families within our school community, we are pleased to announce a Uniform Donation Drive. We warmly welcome donations of unwanted school uniforms, which will be distributed to families in need to help ensure all students have access to the clothing required for school.

If you have any clean, gently used trousers, skirts, shirts, cardigans, ties, PE kits and blazers that your child has outgrown, we would be grateful if you could consider donating them. We kindly ask that all items be washed and in good condition to ensure they are ready to be passed on.

We would like to make a special request to our Year 11 students and their families to contribute uniforms that are no longer needed, as these donations will make a significant difference to students starting fresh or those who require additional support.

Donations can be brought to the Main Reception/Admin Office by Thursday 10th July. ( During school hours)

Thank you very much for your generosity and support in helping us build a caring and inclusive school community.

A Wonderful Week!

Rath Yatra: A Festival of Devotion and Joy

Rath Yatra is an ancient festival held in Jagannath Puri, celebrating Lord Jagannath (Krishna) returning to Vrindavan with His siblings, Balarama and Subhadra, symbolising reunion with His devotees. It brings together thousands of people to chant and remember God, creating unity and spiritual focus in a world often filled with conflict and division. Lord Jagannath means the “Lord of the Universe”. Srila Prabhupada explained Rath Yatra as a meditation on inviting Krishna back into our hearts, which requires us to cleanse ourselves of negative qualities like greed, anger, and envy. The festival ultimately encourages humility, love, and compassion, helping us make our hearts a worthy place for the Lord to reside.

Reception Visit to Somerville Supported Living

Last week, a group of our Reception children had the opportunity to visit the Somerville Supported Living Facility, along with pupils from Krishna Avanti School. During the visit, the children spent time with elderly residents, reading stories, playing games, and sharing conversation. It was a truly joyful afternoon that reflected the values we aim to instil at Avanti Fields, including empathy, respect, and kindness.

We are incredibly proud of how our youngest pupils conducted themselves. They showed confidence, care, and maturity beyond their years. Experiences like this are invaluable in helping children grow as compassionate individuals and responsible members of the wider community.

Somerville Supported Living Facility visit

Miss Savadia, Mr Mockford, Miss Coushikgar and children from Avanti Fields School and Krishna Avanti Primary School came together for a heartwarming visit to the Somerville Supported Living Facility, where they spent a joyful afternoon connecting with the elderly residents. With board games, books, and big smiles, the children brought warmth and youthful energy to the home, creating a truly special atmosphere. The visit beautifully embodied The Avanti Way, as the children lived out the values of empathy, gratitude, respect, courage, self-discipline, and integrity in every interaction.

As they read stories, played games, and engaged in heartfelt conversations, the children showed empathy by listening attentively and forming genuine bonds with the residents. The elders, in turn, generously shared their wisdom, offering life lessons and memories that deeply moved both the children and staff. With gratitude in their hearts, the children expressed how honoured they felt to be part of such a meaningful experience. They treated the residents with great respect, while showing courage in stepping out of their comfort zones to read aloud and start conversations. Throughout the visit, they maintained self-discipline and conducted themselves with quiet dignity, guided by integrity in every word and action.

One of the most touching moments came as everyone gathered to share milk and cookies—a simple gesture that brought smiles, laughter, and a shared sense of community. This visit left a lasting impression on all involved, and the children are already looking forward to returning in the future to continue building these intergenerational bonds, spreading joy, and learning from those who came before us—living and breathing the values of the Avanti Way.

Breakfast club

We are excited to invite your child to join our brand-new Breakfast Club, which successfully launched this term at Avanti Fields. The club runs every weekday from 7:30am, offering a warm and welcoming start to the school day.

Children attending the club will receive a healthy breakfast and have the opportunity to enjoy board games, puzzles and other fun activities with friends before lessons begin. This provision is completely free of charge and families are welcome to book as many days as they wish.

To sign up, simply log in to the clubs section in your Arbor account and select the days you would like your child to attend.

We hope this new initiative will support your child’s well-being and help them start each day positively and ready to learn.

Reminder: Parent Induction Dates (3.00–3.30pm):

1st July : New Year 2

2nd July : New Year 1

Thank you for your continued support!

Pre-school: This week, the children enjoyed an exciting walk to the local park. Along the way, we explored our surroundings, talking about the things we could see and feel. We learned about different road signs and spotted a Gurdwara and a police station. A highlight of our journey was seeing a police car with its blue lights flashing—very exciting!

At the park, we used our listening ears to discover the sounds around us. We heard birds chirping, children playing, and even spotted a squirrel darting through the trees. It was a wonderful trip full of learning, laughter, and discovery!

Reception: This week in Reception, we went on a magical journey as we explored the vibrant Hindu festival of Rath Yatra — the Festival of Chariots! We discovered that Rath means “chariot” and Yatra means “pilgrimage” — together, it celebrates the joyful reunion of Lord Krishna with His childhood friends. To bring this tradition to life, we helped pull our very own chariot, just like in the real festival, while chanting the joyful mantra: “Hare Rama Hare Krishna!” ✨ To end our celebration, we sang a beautiful prayer we had learned — filling the room with music, movement, and meaning. It was an exciting and heart-warming experience!

Year 1: This week, Year 1 celebrated Rath Yatra. They all helped to pull the chariot, they sung many songs using their beautiful voices and they even used instruments when singing along! They explored why we celebrate Rath Yatra and showed lots of gratitude by making prayers. Happy Rath Yatra!

Year 2: This week, our Year 2 children brought the spirit of Rath Yatra to life with a joyful celebration at school. Through songs, and a mini procession, they explored the festival’s rich traditions and meaning. It was a beautiful way to honour culture, community, and togetherness. Well done to our wonderful Year 2’s for their enthusiasm and creativity!

Article 24- Article 24 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) affirms the right of every child to the highest attainable standard of health and access to facilities for the treatment of illness and rehabilitation of health, emphasizing the importance of primary healthcare and addressing traditional practices harmful to children’s health.

We spoke about having positive mental health and why this is important. We said we can promote positive mental health by:

  • Understanding the different types of emotions you have.
  • Knowing that it is usual and ok to have times when you might feel sad or worried
  • Learning different ways to look after your mental health
  • Having a trusted adult to speak with about your feelings.

Here is a linked activity you can do at home:

Create a poster detailing all the people you can talk to if you are worried about something. They are the duty bearers for all of your rights. How many people can you think of?

Every week, children will be learning about an ‘Article of the Week’. This will help our children to learn and develop an understanding about the Convention on the Rights of the Child articles. Please help them learn this Article of the Week, and what this means.

Ratha Yatra Celebration

On Thursday 26.06.25, our school community came together to celebrate the vibrant and uplifting Rath Yatra festival. The day was filled with joy, colour, and reflection, offering all students a chance to engage in this special cultural and spiritual celebration.

The event began with a lively chariot procession where students participated in singing and chanting, creating a wonderful atmosphere across the school grounds. Our chaplaincy team, Mrs Thornton and Mrs Gadhia, led a reflective session that helped students understand the significance of Rath Yatra and its deeper meaning. Students and staff looked fantastic in their colourful traditional attire, adding to the festive spirit of the day. Everyone enjoyed a delicious festival lunch, which added a special touch to the occasion.

Alongside the celebrations, students continued with part of their usual timetable, which included themed lessons and activities that allowed them to explore and reflect on the meaning of Rath Yatra.

It was a truly joyous occasion – one that brought our school community together in celebration, learning, and unity. Thank you to all who helped make the day such a success.

 Year 11 Prom

On Friday 20th June, we celebrated our much-anticipated Year 11 Prom at The Crown Banqueting Suite, with an incredible turnout of 145 students and around 20 staff members.

Students began arriving from 7pm in a stunning array of transport—from motorbikes to a Bugatti—setting the tone for what would be an unforgettable evening. Dressed to impress, our students were unrecognisable in their finest gowns and formal suits, dazzling everyone with their style and elegance.

Guests were welcomed with refreshing mocktails and enjoyed capturing memories at a 360° photo booth and through a professional photographer who documented the entire evening. The night officially began with a welcome speech, followed by fun and memorable student awards including Most Likely to Become Prime Minister, Dynamic Duo, and Drama Queen.

A delicious buffet-style meal was served before the entertainment kicked off, with music and dhol players energising the atmosphere—it truly felt more like a wedding celebration than a prom! A heartfelt video montage of student memories was screened before the announcement of our Prom King and Queen. The rest of the evening was spent dancing, including a spirited performance of the iconic Punjabi song Rail Gaddi, which saw students and staff forming the largest train around the hall!

The night concluded at 11pm, leaving students with wonderful memories to cherish for years to come.

Preparations for this spectacular event began back in September 2024, with a series of student-led fundraising activities including ice pop and sweet treat sales, bake sales, sponge throws, and talent show ticket sales. We are immensely grateful to our PTFA and to Mr D Patel (SSC) and Mrs R Patel for their generous support in making this event possible.

It was a truly magical evening—a celebration of friendship, growth, and the end of an important chapter in our students’ lives.

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
