This is the first year KAPSH took part in the Junior Book Award, a reading group project run by Harrow Libraries to encourage the top readers in participating schools to extend themselves. Selected pupils (3 children each from Years 5 and 6) were given 5 books to read and met with Mrs Maciel once a month to discuss these books over their lunch break. There were a variety of books from different genres and The Many Worlds Of Albie Bright, a book about loss and physics was voted unanimously as the best book. The children who took part were: Rayna, Khushil, Jay, Priyanshi, Amee and Krrish. We particularly enjoyed the chocolate biscuits and juice which Mrs Maciel brought to the group. The children liked the books and really enjoyed meeting the author Lara Williamson who gave a very interesting talk about her career and how she came up with characters. We bought two of her books for our library which she signed for us. Mrs Maciel found this first Junior Book Award very successful and is hoping to continue over the next few years.
