Principals Update

The final parent bulletin of the year is here .. all I can express is gratitude to you all for making Avanti Fields a fantastic school to lead and work in. From our pupils, parents and staff, you all make Avanti Fields a special place to work in. And for our teachers, thank you to each of you who go the extra mile for your pupils, and demonstrate your love and support of our pupils in numerous ways.

An End of Year newsletter will be shared with all parents on Monday to showcase the fantastic year our pupils have had. Look out for it in your emails.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Miss Savadia, Mr Cheung, Mr Richardson and Mr Browne for successfully completing your ECT. Throughout the ECT Programme, you have all worked to improve your practice, learn more about your curriculum areas and pedagogy, and have supported your pupil’s progress and development. I wish you all very long and successful careers in education. Also a very big congratulations to Miss Bhoobun and Miss Redfern for completing their teacher training and gaining PGCE and QTS status. Miss Bhoobun will be remaining with us in the Maths department next year, while Miss Redfern is moving to an exciting opportunity to teach English in an all-through provision.

I would like to thank the following staff for their contributions to the school. Mr Li joined our secondary TA team this term and has been incredible in working with our learners. Mr Livsey has provided additional stability and support in the science technician team while we were recruiting and his years of experience have been invaluable. Mrs Skegro has continued to support the PRE team remotely since GCSE exams began, and her middle leader expertise has supported rapid staff confidence and development within the team. Miss Lennox has given her all while providing maternity cover for Drama; our students have continued their learning through a seamless and well-planned provision.

Ms Murphey won’t be returning to Avanti Fields next year following her maternity leave, and we wish her the best of luck in her next endeavours. Mrs Lord joined us in March as an English Academic Mentor. She will be continuing to provide mentor support next year in the Autumn term and will also be working within the PRE team.

And for a few farewells, I want to thank Mrs Jani for her work in supporting the Design Technology and Food Technology courses this year. You have stepped into a newly created role and made it a success. Mr Browne joined the PE department this year part way through his ECT year. He has continued to develop his skills throughout the year, supported with fixtures and made a massive difference to our pupils. A big thank you to Miss Ordonez for your contributions to the Spanish department since joining us two years ago. The passion and experience you bring to the subject through being a native speaker has enhanced our pupils progress within the subject and their appreciation of the Spanish culture. And finally, I want to thank Mrs Kurth for everything that she has done for Avanti Fields since starting as a founding member of the school back in 2018. Mrs Kurth’s passion for pastoral practices that support the whole child have embodied the Avanti Way and her leadership and experience with Spanish teaching has connected with some of our hardest to reach pupils.

Summer Reading Challenge – Leicester Libraries

Summer Reading Challenge 2024

Dear all,

Marvellous Makers is this year’s summer reading challenge with Leicester libraries.

The challenge encourages children to use their local library and maintain their reading habit through the long summer break and aims to mitigate the dip in performance associated with a long break from reading, that many children experience in the new school year.

Starting Saturday 29 June until the 15 September, children aged 0 to 15 years can sign up to take part and complete the six-book challenge.  A prize of £100 of books will be awarded to the Leicester school with the highest percentage of children finishing the challenge (numbers recorded by Leicester libraries staff).

In Leicester, we also have a challenge for adults to promote good role modelling.  Adults, you can participate by reading six books for a chance to win £30 worth of books!

Leicester libraries’ offer is enhanced with a range of free activities for the whole family, all designed to promote reading for pleasure and the joy of sharing books and stories.

To support schools, there is a short film and assembly presentation to use to encourage your pupils to take part in the challenge.

For further information about our full programme of activities please visit leicester.gov.uk/summerreadingchallenge.

We hope you will join us in encouraging your children to keep reading this summer.

This week we held our final celebration assembly of the year. We celebrated the amazing children who have 100% attendance since the start of the year or Summer term! We also celebrated the children who have had very high attendance over the whole year! Look at our shining stars!

Attending school on time and regularly is highly important for your child’s development as it allows them to access our full curriculum. We love to see so many children come to school every day and hope this high streak of attendance can continue in the new year! Thank you for your support as co-educators.

House Point Winners

Water bounced their way to victory! They managed to get 73 house point balls in the jar this term! We are so proud of them!

Water team won our house point competition this term, so next week they will be enjoying a bouncy castle slide!

Class parties- each class will have their own party in the afternoon. Please bring all contributions on that day of the party.

RRSA Article of the Week: Article 22

If a child is seeking refuge or has refugee status, governments must provide them with appropriate protection and assistance to help them enjoy all the rights in the Convention. Governments must help refugee children who are separated from their parents to be reunited with them.

The focus surrounding this Article is World Refugee Day. World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the United Nations to honour refugees around the globe. It falls each year on June 20 and celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. Children will learn about possible events that might lead to children and their families becoming refugees such as natural disasters, family disputes or problems, changes in weather and droughts/famine which leads to a lack of food and water.

Here is an activity you can do at home. Watch this video explaining what a refugee is. Can you create your own film or a simple PowerPoint presentation to help other children in your school understand what it means to be refugee?

School Raffle Event

Dear Parents,

We are writing, as head boy and head girl at Avanti fields school, to request your company’s support and sponsorship for an upcoming school raffle event. The purpose of this raffle is to raise enough money in order to buy a minibus, which will be a great assistance and make a difference to the school for extracurricular activities / trips and enable these to be open and inclusive for all that come to the school including those that are from disadvantaged backgrounds and those that have additional needs. It is also our way of leaving a legacy and something that will be used by the students at Avanti fields for many years to come.

The raffle has the potential to raise enough for a minibus with match funding from our School Trust. However, we need your support to make this event a reality.

We would like to request a sponsorship of a prize/s from yourselves or any friends and family you know. All major sponsors will receive 4 complimentary tickets to our Christmas dinner and dance, where the raffle draw will take place. They will also receive advertisement on raffle tickets and posters.

Thank you for considering this sponsorship opportunity. We look forward to the possibility of working with you to make the raffle a success.

We would welcome your thoughts and hope you will reply to this notice at your earliest convenience by emailing [email protected] .

Many Thanks,

Meisha (Head Girl) & Priyan (Head Boy)

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
