Principals Update
It has been another fantastically busy week for our pupils. Our KS4 pupils have had opportunities to extend their passion for English through a Macbeth theatre visit and a “Glow up your Grades” event. A representation of Year 10s participated in a city wide community event “Building and Intercultural City” where they were able to articulate their knowledge on their own faith, and their learnings on other faiths. We look forward to sharing their experiences with the rest of Year 10 next week. But my favourite event this week (and for the year) was our World Book Day dress up. Children from Pre-School to Year 9 dressed as their favourite characters and were joined by a number of staff. Linked to World Book Day, we hosted a number of Stay and Read sessions for parents in our primary phase.
Next week all of our secondary pupils will have science specific assemblies as part of British Science week. We are also holding our Year 6 into Year 7 Transition Welcome Evening and are looking forward to the Gaura Purnima festival day on Friday next week. For Gaura Purnima, we are delighted that we have been able to expand the co-curricular offer for our KS3 pupils to include a musical element, alongside our regular abhishek worship sessions.

Gaura Purnima Festival
On Friday 14th March, the school will celebrate the birth anniversary of Sri Chaitanya, the Golden Avatar or divine incarnation of Lord Krishna, who appeared some 500 years ago. The festival day will engage children in learning about Sri Chaitanya through worship, art and storytelling. All children will be invited to a ceremony in our Worship Hall to participate in the traditional ‘bathing’ of Sri Chaitanya called abhishek.
To encourage the festive occasion, all children are welcome to come dressed in their traditional outfits or something celebratory. The Hindu scriptures state that no ceremony is complete without the sharing of sanctified food, therefore, all children and staff will be served a sumptuous lunch feast.
We would like to invite you to our Spiritual Insight Workshop on Tuesday 11th March at 6.30pm in which Mr Gajjar will be describing the life and teachings of Sri Chaitanya in preparation for the festival. You can join the workshop using this link: https://shorturl.at/83QzfT

Pre-school: This week have been developing their knowledge of shapes by grouping 2D and 3D shapes. We learnt a rhyme to help us identify shapes “2D shapes are flat, 3D shapes are fat”. We then went on a 3D shape hunt around the classroom. What 3D shapes can you find in your home? We have also enjoyed creating our own emergency vehicles with different collaging materials. Can you spot any emergency vehicles on the road this weekend?
Reception: This week Reception have enjoyed reading week; they were visited by Hema the story teller, had a parent workshop, and even dressed up for World Book Day! They even shared their own stories in class, and were incredible story tellers
Year 1: This week Year 1 children have been learning about algorithms in programming. We started by giving our partner step by step instructions to create a picture or follow an action. We have learnt that each step has to follow a sequence for it to be successful.
Year 2: We have had a brilliant reading week! Our very own Mrs Rampersad from the office read us a fantastic story followed by our visitor, Hema from our local library! We’ve had an even had our first ever reading workshop in Year 2! It was brilliant

RRSA Articles of the Week
Week 2: World Book Day
Article’s you could explore which link to this topic: 31
Article 31 (Leisure, Play and Culture)- Every child has the right to relax, play and take part in a wide range of cultural and artistic activities.
This week, we focused on the part in the article which alludes to the fact that children have the right to take part in a wide range of cultural and artistic activities. We also discussed other national days we have celebrated e.g. NSPCC Number Day, Red Nose Day or BBC Children in Need. We also explored how it felt to be a part of such a special event and discussed who our favourite book characters were.
Here is a linked activity you can do at home:
Can you create a story map of your favourite book? Think about the order of the story, draw or write words to describe the main parts of the story, Can you retell the story to a friend using your map?
Every week, children will be learning about an ‘Article of the Week’. This will help our children to learn and develop an understanding about the Convention on the Rights of the Child articles. Please help them learn this Article of the Week, and what this means.

Building an Intercultural city
Imagine a city where people of all ages, of different ethnicities and cultures do not simply observe each other from afar, but interact, supporting each other when life is hard, and celebrating together when life is good.
On Monday 3rd March, Year 10 students from Avanti Fields Secondary School were invited to join city and culture leaders at Leicester Cathedral. As representatives of a Hindu faith school, the students shared their views, hopes and aspirations for their city.
Organised by the St Philips Centre and Leicester Cathedral, the event was attended by key people from the city’s sporting clubs, religious institutions, and city leaders.
The students were then invited to discuss their thoughts on what can be done to develop Leicester as an intercultural city for a brighter future for all young people.
English Masterclass: Glow Up Your Grades
On Wednesday 5th March, Year 11 took part in an English masterclass, ‘Glow Up Your Grades’, which was delivered by former teacher, TV presenter and GCSE examiner Mehreen Baig. During the session, students were able to see how they can level up their English skills and ultimately increase their potential in the exams. Mehreen, offered many tips which she readily shares on her successful YouTube channel. Those students who had purchased her revision book, ‘Glow Up Your Grades: The Ultimate Guide to Transforming Your English GCSE’, were also able to speak to Mehreen whilst they had their books signed.
Macbeth Live
Year 10 had the fantastic opportunity to watch Macbeth live on Tuesday 4th March and it was a resounding success, offering an unforgettable experience that truly brought Shakespeare’s tragic play to life. Seeing the performance on stage allowed for a deeper appreciation of the emotions, intensity, and drama that can sometimes be lost in reading the text alone. The actors’ powerful delivery, especially Macbeth’s descent into madness and Lady Macbeth’s haunting guilt, made the play’s themes of ambition, fate, and morality even more striking. Watching the play live also helped deepen pupils understanding of Shakespearean language, as the actors’ tone and body language made the meaning clearer. Overall, the trip was an enriching and engaging experience, making Macbeth feel more vivid, memorable, and impactful than ever before.

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.
All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.
The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.
This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
