Principals Update

It has been lovely compiling this week’s bulletin and reflecting on the events of the week. From curriculum enrichment opportunities, to our House Colours day, it has been lovely seeing our pupils engaged in all that our school has to offer. A highlight was seeing our primary pupils on the AST Facebook page to highlight their visit to the Gurdwara: https://fb.watch/yrmVOyUktu/

And a massive highlight of this week was attending the second annual Avanti Talent Show last night. This year once again showcased the exceptional talents of our secondary pupils, from singing, dancing, playing instruments, to plays, spoken word recitals and displays of unique talents and skills (such as Rubik’s cube solving and a complex yo-yo demonstration). A very big thank you to Ms Olusanya, and her team of pupil helpers, for the professional running of the show and to our PTFA who supported with the selling of refreshments.

Next week our Year 10 pupils head to Belgium for their Avanti Quest residential. A big thank you to the staff attending to support.

Palaeontologist  visit

This week in Reception, we had a very exciting visit from a Palaeontologist. We learnt about different types of fossils, and the features of different dinosaurs. We also learnt that herbivores usually had flat teeth to eat plants, and carnivores and omnivores usually had sharp teeth, to eat through meat. Did you know that it is believed that an asteroid hit our Earth around 66 million years ago, wiping out the whole dinosaur population?

Earth Day Celebration

We will be celebrating Earth Day at school with the children on Monday 28th April. Children will participate by dressing up for Earth Day and joining in with activities in class. We kindly ask parents for donations of bedding plants/ bulbs which children can plant with their class on Earth Day. Please pass on donations to your child’s class teacher on Monday 28th April.

Pre-school: This week pre school have been learning about how to grow plants, we planted cress seeds and we are making sure they get plenty of sun and water! We are waiting patiently for them to grow!

Reception: In Reception, we celebrated the House Points event day by having lots of fun. We raised money for our houses by playing games such as which team can complete the trim trail the fastest, and tug of war. Reception worked as a team and showed so much resilience! #characterformation #avantiway

Year 1: Year 1 celebrated their house point event by engaging in lots of fun team building activities! They participating in a variety of races including the egg and spoon race. They finished off their tournament by participating in an exciting game of tug of war in the lovely sunshine☀️

Year 2: Children enjoyed a wonderfully creative week of Art and Design where we learnt how to create a collage. Our first lesson enabled us to explore combing a variety of techniques such as peeling, cutting, painting and rubbing. Secondly, we explored how to achieve balance through arranging materials and objects in different ways. Finally, after finding inspiration from artists such as Katie Vernon and Henri Matisse, the children created their amazing masterpiece using all of the skills we had developed over the course of the week. We are very proud of our Year 2 artists!

RRSA Article of the Week

RRSA Articles of the Week

Week 4 – World Water Day

Article’s you could explore which link to this topic: 24

Article 24 (health and healthcare services) – Every child has the right to the best possible health. Governments must provide good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food, and a clean environment and education on health and well-being so that children can stay healthy. Richer countries must help poorer countries achieve this.

This week, we reflected on World Water Day which was on the 22nd of March, and why children think the right to clean water is such an important right.

You may want to talk about possible reasons including:

  • Our bodies are made up of over 60% water and we need clean water to keep them working properly and to stay alive.
  • Pollution of our oceans, rivers and waterways can have a serious impact on all living things.
  • Water is important to generate power in some places and it is a better for the environment than burning fossil fuels.

Here is an activity you can do at home:

Each year World Water Day identifies a theme. Take a look at the World Water Day website to find out what this year’s theme is. Make a poster or display to promote it and decide on one action that you will take. Can you link the theme to Articles 24 and 27?

Every week, children will be learning about an ‘Article of the Week’. This will help our children to learn and develop an understanding about the Convention on the Rights of the Child articles. Please help them learn this Article of the Week, and what this means.

STEM Roadshow

During British Science Week 2025, Avanti Fields students in year 7 and year 8 had an incredible opportunity. The STEM roadshow team, sponsored by BAE Systems, RAF and Royal Navy delivered an interactive session about Artificial Intelligence (AI) to inspire our students to explore careers available to them, as this ground-breaking technology needs the next generation of engineers.

The roadshow explored AI’s practical applications for both teachers and pupils, while also emphasising the importance of human skills in maximising AI’s potential.

‘Lexi the Cobot’ certainly stole the show as it demonstrated how a ‘collaborative robot’ can perform tricks, understand voice, and hand commands plus navigate mazes using artificial intelligence as it learns to think for itself.

To demonstrate the powers of AI, there was a live demonstration to write a brand-new pop song with suggestions from students about the theme and the musical instruments to be used. No pop song would be complete without a video, and this was also created within minutes using AI technology.

This eye-opening event left students and staff inspired and eager to explore the endless possibilities AI offers, ensuring they are prepared for the technological advancements of tomorrow. Student were made aware of the dangers and misuse of AI and how to be vigilant and safe online.

The annual Pi Recitation Competition

Avanti Fields Talent Show 2025

2nd Annual Talent Show was a huge success!

We wanted to take a moment to express our deepest appreciation for the exceptional performances at our recent talent show. It was truly a celebration of creativity, hard work, and the incredible talents that make our school community so unique.

To our students, we cannot put into words how impressed everyone by your courage, enthusiasm, and skill. Each one of you brought something special to the stage, whether it was through music, dance, drama, or any other form of art. Your performances were not only entertaining but also inspiring, showcasing the diversity of talents and the dedication you bring to everything you do.

Together, students and teachers created an unforgettable experience that will be remembered fondly for years to come. It’s moments like these that make our school so special and demonstrate the power of teamwork, inspiration, and the pursuit of excellence.

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
