Principals Update

This week has been very busy with exams for a wide range of our pupils. A very big well done to our Year 2 pupils who have completed their KS1 SATS assessments and to our Year 11 pupils who have completed just over a week of GCSE exams. But it’s not all about exams! We’ve had Year 7 pupils complete their final large scale rehearsal for Avanti Sings, a Year 8 book talking session and a Y9 STEM day take place this week. And most exciting – it was Pre-school pet day today!

I would like to welcome Mrs R Martin to our school. She joined us on Monday as our new Deputy DSL (non-teaching) and comes with a wealth of experience. She has begun to meet our children, across both primary and secondary and is getting to know our parent community.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week; Dr Biddulph would like to share some reflections on mental wellbeing and school life with us all in this video: https://youtu.be/nBaWXfMZSbw

Finally, you may have heard of a petition that has come through from a small proportion of the Krishna Avanti parent community. We have responded to the petition and are sharing our response with our Avanti Fields community for your information. Note to parents – 16.05.25 Should you have any questions about the petition, please feel free to contact me directly at [email protected].

Primary News

Well done Mrs Ganatra!

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am pleased to share some exciting news for the Avanti Fields Team. A few weeks ago, we recruited for our first permanent senior leadership position at Avanti Fields Primary and I am delighted to announce that we have successfully appointed Mrs. Ganatra as Assistant Principal.

Mrs. Ganatra has been with Avanti Fields for over two years and has made significant contributions to the progress and growth of the school. She played an important role in supporting our last OFSTED inspection, led on reading, and will now take on a broader role focusing on staff development, home learning, and outdoor learning whilst also developing the schools reading strategy as it grows.

Mrs. Ganatra will continue to be the class teacher for Bluebell class for the remainder of this academic year, with Mr. Baxter providing additional support as she carries out her wider school duties. Moving forward, Mrs. Ganatra will support teaching and learning across all classes, and to assist with this, we have recently advertised for an additional class teacher to join our team.

Please join me in congratulating Mrs. Ganatra on this well-deserved new role.

Kind regards,

Ms Thakore

“A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Wonderful School Community

This week marks a special milestone as our incredible Year 2 pupils completed their very first SATs papers – and what a journey it has been! We are beyond proud of each and every child for the resilience, effort, and determination they have shown throughout. Their hard work and positive attitude have truly shone through.

We would also like to extend our deepest thanks to you – our amazing parents and carers – for the kind and brilliant support you have given along the way. Your words of encouragement, calm reassurance, and unwavering belief in your children have played such a huge part in helping them approach these assessments with confidence and pride.

Thank you for being compassionate, motivating, and for always reminding our pupils just how amazing they are. We are so grateful to be part of such a supportive and caring community.

With heartfelt thanks,

Year 2 Team

20th May Reception Sports day 1.45pm- 2.45pm

21st May Year 1 Sports day 1.45pm- 2.45pm

22nd May Year 2 Sports Day 1.45-2.45pm

Pre-school: This week, we have been learning all about farm animals, their habitat and the different jobs of a farmer. We planted potatoes and discussed how we are going to help them to grow and been practising drawing with detail by drawing farm animals. We’ve also had Pet day and met so many wonderful pets! We showed courage and empathy by welcoming them into our classrooms and enjoyed learning about how to take care of them.

Reception: This week in Reception, we’ve been diving into the world of symmetry! ✨ We put our sharp observational skills to the test as we created beautiful flower drawings. The best part? We got to use a mirror to help us complete our artwork! It was so much fun seeing our creations come to life. Now, here’s a challenge for you: Can you complete a symmetrical drawing all on your own, without using a mirror? Let’s see what amazing designs you can come up with!

Year 1: This week in Year 1, we have been expanding on our computing and creative skills by experimenting with digital art. The children looked at what tools they could use to make their images e.g. using the brush tool and making their brushstrokes thick and thin, using shapes and different colours to make their images pop! Can you create your own digital painting on an electronic device at home? ️

Year 2: This week, our Year 2 scientists completed their exciting plant investigation! Through careful observation, they discovered that water is essential for a seed to begin its journey of growth. The young learners also explored how plants use a special green substance called chlorophyll to make their own food from sunlight. It’s been a wonderful week of hands-on learning and scientific discovery!

RRSA Articles of the Week

Week 3 – Mental Health Awareness Week

Article’s you could explore which link to this topic: 24

Article 24- Article 24 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) affirms the right of every child to the highest attainable standard of health and access to facilities for the treatment of illness and rehabilitation of health, emphasizing the importance of primary healthcare and addressing traditional practices harmful to children’s health.

We spoke about having positive mental health and why this is important. We said we can promote positive mental health by:

  • Understanding the different types of emotions you have.
  • Knowing that it is usual and ok to have times when you might feel sad or worried
  • Learning different ways to look after your mental health
  • Having a trusted adult to speak with about your feelings.

Here is a linked activity you can do at home:

Create a poster detailing all the people you can talk to if you are worried about something. They are the duty bearers for all of your rights. How many people can you think of?

Every week, children will be learning about an ‘Article of the Week’. This will help our children to learn and develop an understanding about the Convention on the Rights of the Child articles. Please help them learn this Article of the Week, and what this means.

Secondary News

Dear Parents / Carers

As we enter the GCSE exam season, we would like to inform you of some important expectations regarding student behaviour, particularly in and around the PE corridor and changing rooms.

The changing rooms are directly connected to the main sports hall, where all GCSE exams are taking place. To ensure our centre remains fully compliant with JCQ examination regulations and to provide our Year 11 students with the quiet, respectful environment they deserve, it is essential that all students follow the behaviour expectations that have been clearly and explicitly communicated to them.

Students must not communicate with others at any point along the PE corridor or while in the changing rooms. Sound easily carries through to the sports hall and any noise can disrupt exams, potentially compromising the exam conditions for those sitting them.

Please note that:

  • Any student who communicates in these areas will be issued with a C3.
  • These rules are in place throughout the exam season and are non-negotiable.
  • Students are reminded to show self-discipline and respect for those currently sitting exams – your child will be experience sitting their GCSEs in future exam seasons and would appreciate the same level of respect.

We kindly ask for your support in reinforcing this message at home, helping students understand the importance of maintaining a quiet and respectful environment during this critical period.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards

PE department

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
