Principal Update

This week’s parent bulletin is full of exciting and enriching activities that we as a school are offering our students. The staff at Avanti Fields put an extraordinary amount of time into planning these events and I am grateful that our students have such a wide range of extra-curricular activities for them to explore. It is through enrichment activities that our young people continue to develop their character and widen their interests.

In 2022, Her Majesty, The Queen, will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, seventy years of service, having acceded to the throne on 6th February 1952 when Her Majesty was 25 years old.

Throughout the year, Her Majesty and members of the Royal Family will travel around the country to undertake a variety of engagements to mark this historic occasion culminating with the focal point of the Platinum Jubilee Weekend in June.

An extended bank holiday, from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June, will provide an opportunity for communities and people throughout the United Kingdom to come together to celebrate the historic milestone. The four days of celebrations will include public events and community activities, as well as national moments of reflection on The Queen’s 70 years of service.

Because schools are on their half-term break during the week, all schools in the country have been asked to set a day which suits their calendars and area. As such, both Avanti Fields School and Krishna Avanti Primary School have agreed on Tuesday 3rd May, 2022. Please add this to your diaries.

Art exhibition

For the third year in succession 5 of our students have had their artwork selected for Open 32 the People’s Exhibition.  This is a highly prestigious event with around 800 entrants from the East Midlands submitting artwork for consideration.

Well done to Aksayan U (Y9), Khushi C (Y10), Jahnavi K (Y8), Dhiya B (Y8) and Krunalgiri D (Y9).

This fantastic exhibition is free of charge and open to the public from Saturday 4th December through to Friday 21st January at Leicester Museum and Art Gallery on New Walk.

We hope that you can find an opportunity to pop into the exhibition and see the fantastic artwork by our students.

Avanti Fields Recommended Reads

The English faculty have complied a very extensive, thought-provoking, and diverse reading list for our students to get their teeth into. The selection of books range from those suitable for younger Key Stage 3 readers to slightly more mature pieces for our older students. Please take note of the * to indicate the more mature content when selecting books with your child to read.

Sports Updates

It has been another outstanding week for Avanti Fields students within the sporting arena. The snow brought new challenges for the whole school community and we are very proud of the perseverance and patience the students demonstrated when faced with the limited outdoor facilities. “Mass snowball fight…. staff vs students?” was the most frequently requested activity during Storm Arwen, which only highlights the Avanti students’ competitive spirit. This competitive spirit translated into an epic achievement for the mixed Y7&Y8 basketball team this week. The students showed the local competition that we mean business and secured a spot in the semi-finals brushing aside bigger, more established schools. The students dug deep and used their understanding of the Avanti Way to show courage and independent thinking when it mattered most.

Daniel G and Jai T deserve recognition for their attitude during the extracurricular football clubs. They are always striving to be the “best versions of themselves” and in turn inspiring others to replicate these positive behaviours.

Govindas

The catering staff have noticed that during break time, some students are sharing their lunch payment cards to purchase drinks and snacks for other students, which can sometimes leave them without enough credit to pay for their own lunch.  This can also lead to parents querying the transactions on their child’s account.  We would ask that parents advise their children not to share their lunch cards with other students in order to avoid this.

Reminders

Contacting the school

Should parents or carers need to contact the school, we request that you complete the online form that can be found on our website. You will receive a response from the school within 2 working days.

Absences

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:30am.

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 61813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

Pick ups and drop offs – if you need to drive to school to drop off or pick up your child, please do not park on the road approaching the school gates. People that park on this road cause huge delays which then becomes a huge challenge for traffic both ways. This week children have been crossing the car park in unsafe areas, please remind them to use the crossings.

The gates open at 3pm to allow you to come in and leave with a smooth flow.

Please come in and find a safe place to park and wait sensibly but do not park where the buses need to stop.

We wish you all a lovely weekend

Yours sincerely

Miss Bardsley
