Principal Update

We are nourished by personal relationships that fulfil our need to love and be loved, encouraging us to be the best we can be.”

This week our pastoral middle leaders completed a unique session focused on our impact as leaders. The concept reflects on the unconscious influence of a manager, known as “The Shadow of a Leader” which, as the name suggests, relates to the influence – better or worse – of the leader on their team. People absorb their leader’s values and tend to mirror their leader’s behaviour.

I believe this reflection piece is applicable to our students and whole school community. We are developing student leadership at our school and believe all our students are leaders. We are actively encouraging students to reflect on how their actions may influence their peers and all those around them.  In recognition of students who have demonstrated outstanding student leadership qualities, staff have been submitting their nominations for the prestigious Lord-Lieutenant’s Awards for young people. We look forward to announcing all the nominations soon.

Science Competition Update

Royal Society of Chemistry Regional Competition

In the autumn term the science department ran an internal chemistry competition for year 9 and year 10 students. From these results a team of 4 students were selected to represent the school in the Top of the Bench competition. Our students had to work independently to prepare for an online quiz and a practical challenge in a very short period of time.

This competition is aimed for a team of students across Y9-Y11.  Even without any Y11 students representing the Avanti Fields team, our students demonstrated their passion and determination and were awarded 3rd place both for the online quizzes and the regional competition! Congratulations to Hinal Solanki, Shivani Kandoi, Shaylan Mapara and Shay Raithatha.

We are extremely proud of their achievements!
