Principals Update

This morning I had the pleasure of working with our incoming Head Boy and Head Girl to hear their plans for how they will lead the student body for next year. Not to give anything away, as they are keen to lead the launch in August, but it is exciting to hear how inclusive they are in their plans. They truly embody our vision to inspire spiritually compassionate changemakers.

Yesterday I had the privilege of being in the audience when Mr Arnell, Principal of Avanti House Secondary School, announced that they have been shortlisted for the World’s Best School prize in the category of ‘supporting healthy lives’. You can watch his announcement video here. Please join me in sharing your support for Avanti House by voting here.

Next week, we are excited that some of our Year 9 students will be heading to Plas Gwynant in Wales for a Geography residential. Thank you in advance to Mr Clarke for your commitment to running this opportunity. Where appropriate, we will try to update our social media to share throughout the week, but this will dependent on the service connection.

RRSA Article of the Week: Article 31

Every child has the right to relax, play and take part in a wide range of cultural and artistic activities.

We will be focusing on Sports Day and how we felt, taking part in a special whole-school event. You may want to ask your child about their favourite sport, or their favourite activity during Sports Day. Was it the egg and spoon race, or relay race? Did they enjoy the parent races? What is their favourite memory.

Here is an activity you can do at home.

How do you like to spend your free time? Think about what your ideal weekend would be like. Where would you go? What would you do? What activities would you participate in? What rights would you enjoy? Create a comic strip showing your dream weekend and share it with your class.

Avanti Fields Art Department Exhibition: Summer 2024

Welcome to our first Avanti Fields online Art Exhibition. Over the final weeks of the Summer Term the Parent bulletins will feature an Exhibition of our student’s Art work. Each week we will showcase work from a different year group. We are proud to begin our series of online exhibitions with the work of our Yr11 GCSE students. This exhibition features at least 2 pieces of work from each Yr11 GCSE student. Over 2 years our GCSE Students produce at least one coursework unit, culminating in a final piece on the theme of Our World or Journeys. You will also see work from their Exam projects. Students begin their Exam for Art in January by responding to a theme given to them in the Art Exam paper. Over the following 10 weeks the students will produce a sketchbook of work culminating in a final piece produced over a 10 hour period around Easter time. The results of which can be seen here. The exam themes this year included Space, Gardens, Shopping and Celebrity. You might like to guess which pieces relate to which theme and what inspired the artists? The diversity of our student’s work can be seen in their personalised responses to given themes, the range of media used and the range of ability of the students. We are proud to enter the work of all our GCSE students for the exhibition and celebrate the diversity of outcome, experience and ability. Well done to all our Art students for their efforts. We hope you enjoy viewing the work.

Coming next week …. A selection of Yr10 Artwork from their ‘Our World’ project.

Every week we will upload exciting Art works from our Year 11 GCSE  students keep checking.

Thank you

Mrs Winter, Mrs Marshall, Mrs Walshe, Mr Westwood and the Art Students of Avanti Fields.

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
