Principals Update
This week we have our Year 10 students attending the Avanti Quest residential in Belgium, and next week we have the Year 8s attending their residential trip. A very big thank you to the staff who have supported these residential trips – without your support and time, it would not be possible. Tonight we also have our Year 7 & 8 student disco!
We also have Year 2 pupils who went to Twycross Zoo yesterday, and one of our Year 1 classes were on a visit to the ISKCON temple today. These enrichment activities greatly enhance our curriculum and provide meaningful and memorable experiences for our young people.
Today we shared with parents information about changes to our school timings for next academic year. If you missed the email, you can read the letter here:

If your child is in uniform that day, they will not be able to participate.

Preschool children will also be participating as a class, there will be a morning session for all pupils that are morning only and then all other pupils will join the rest of the school at 2pm. Please note: If your child is in uniform that day, they will not be able to participate.

We will be celebrating Earth Day at school with the children on Monday 28th April. Children will participate by dressing up for Earth Day and joining in with activities in class. We kindly ask parents for donations of bedding plants/ bulbs which children can plant with their class on Earth Day. Please pass on donations to your child’s class teacher on Monday 28th April.

Pre-school: This week in Pre-school we have developed our knowledge of plants through observational drawings and paintings. We dissected a daffodil plant and were surprised to see a bulb hidden in the soil. The roots attached were very long! We also dissected a cress plant and discussed the similarities and differences of both the plants.
We have been taking care of our cress plants, look how much they’ve grown!
Reception: This week in Reception we have been exploring the seasonal changes, and making observations of Spring. We have noticed that the leaves are greener, and flowers are beginning to bloom! we have also been working hard in Maths to add and subtract!
Year 1:This week, Year 1 have been improving their bat and ball skills by trying to hit a bean bag with their rackets into a target. They have been very resilient when practising this skill!
Year 2: Year 2 had an AMAZING time at the zoo on Thursday 27th March! We saw playful gorillas, curious lemurs, and playful penguins up close! So many incredible animals to discover. What’s your favourite animal?
Stars of the week
All pupils who were a star of the week joined the ‘top table’ for lunch. A huge well done to: ……..
RRSA Article of the Week
Article of the Week – Rights Respecting Schools Award (unicef.org.uk)
RRSA Articles of the Week
Week 5: Freedom of thought and religion
Article’s you could explore which link to this topic: 14
Article 14 – Every child has the right to think and believe what they choose and also to practise their religion, as long as they are not stopping other people from enjoying their rights. Governments must respect the rights and responsibilities of parents to guide their child as they grow up.
This week, we spoke about how we all have freedom of speech, and we learnt about how facts differ from opinions, recapping our previous learning. We spoke about how we are all incredible human beings, and how we have diverse backgrounds that make us who we are!
Here is a linked activity you can do at home:
What opportunities are there for children at your school to practise and share their different religions and beliefs? Can you write a list?
Every week, children will be learning about an ‘Article of the Week’. This will help our children to learn and develop an understanding about the Convention on the Rights of the Child articles. Please help them learn this Article of the Week, and what this means.

Absence

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)
Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.
All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.
The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.
This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
