Principals Update

Looking at the calendar, it is wonderful to see that we have a busy few weeks coming up with a large number of trips and visits planned. I would like to offer a very big thank you to all of the trip leads for their organisation and to those staff attending to support.

This is the first year we have organised large-scale secondary rewards trips. Once we’ve finished them all, please do pass on feedback to the school if you or your child could suggest anything to improve for next year. We would like to keep this as part of our offer, but need to make sure these opportunities run as well as possible.

Today I had the pleasure of being joined by Dr Biddulph to listen to the culmination of the Avanti Sings project. Avanti Sings is an initiative to put a love of music and singing into our curriculum. Our Year 7 pupils were joined by Year 5 pupils from Krishna Avanti Primary School in a cluster concert this afternoon. It was so uplifting seeing our young pupils engage in this opportunity, they joyously sang a number of songs, and the talent displayed by the soloist singers was phenomenal.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome back Mrs Neglur. As some of you may be aware, Mrs Neglur has been unwell and is returning to Avanti Fields following a significant absence from the school. To support her return to work, she will be working within the secondary inclusion department for the remainder of the academic year as a teaching assistant.

Primary News

Dear Parents and Children,

A very warm welcome back to everyone at Avanti Fields Primary as we begin the final term of the academic year!

I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable break. We are excited to embark on what promises to be a vibrant and memorable summer term, full of rich learning opportunities and joyful experiences.

There is so much to look forward to over the coming weeks – from exciting educational trips and inspiring art workshops to transition afternoons that will support our pupils as they prepare for the next stage of their journey.

As we move through this important final term, we would like to remind all families of the vital role that excellent attendance and punctuality play in ensuring children make the most of every learning opportunity. Each day in school counts, and arriving on time helps your child start their day calmly and confidently, ready to engage and succeed.

Next week our Year 1 children will have their Phonic Screening Check, I wish all of the children best of luck! Remember- Spot the special friends, Fred Talk, read the word

Thank you, as always, for your continued support and partnership. We look forward to a happy, productive, and inspiring term together.

Warm Regards

Ms Thakore

Pre-school: This week, Pre-school have been learning all about sunflowers! In Art and Design, we’ve been developing our ideas and choosing different materials to collage and paint beautiful sunflower creations. The children explored textures, colours, and used different tools to bring their sunflower art to life!

In Maths, we have been practising accurate counting and exploring the concept of height by measuring sunflowers using cubes. The children enjoyed comparing different sizes and using mathematical language like taller, shorter, and same.

Reception: had such a fun-filled week, but their favourite activity has been the food sensory workshop! We smelt and tried different foods, and even put mint in our water! What is your favourite food? Can you also name the 5 senses? We definitely can! In Maths, we have been exploring the concept of addition using the number line. We are getting so good at addition!

Year 1:  had an amazing day at the Sea Life Centre. We learnt about the different layers of the ocean and interesting facts about the different types of fish we saw. We even got to touch a star fish!

Year 2: Well done, Year 2! After smashing their SATS, they enjoyed a brilliant pyjama party with their teddies! Well-deserved fun all around!

Stars of the week

All pupils who were a star of the week joined the ‘top table’ for lunch. A huge well done to: ……..

Local MP Shivani Raja visits Avanti Fields School

On Wednesday 4th June we were delighted to welcome Leicester East MP Shivani Raja to Avanti Fields School for a special visit with our Student Leadership Team. Ms Raja was given a tour of the school, where she met staff and students, and saw first-hand the vibrant learning environment and values that underpin our community.

The highlight of the visit came during a Q&A session with members of our Student Leadership Team, who didn’t hold back in asking probing and challenging questions. While some students admitted to feeling a little intimidated at first, they soon found their voice—grilling the MP on everything from local youth services and education funding to national policies and her journey into politics.

The visit was a fantastic opportunity for students to engage with politics in a meaningful way and develop their leadership skills. We are proud of how they represented Avanti Fields and look forward to more opportunities to connect with our local community leaders.  Students, represented our school community so positively (Devanshi S, Paharpreet A, Jasman S, Nkosi M, Sanjeevan U, Aamir D, Manav M, Rohan V).

RISE for Schools poster competition 2025

Each year, a group of universities work together to host the International SEEDS Conference. SEEDS stands for Sustainable Ecological Engineering Design for Society and researchers from across the world come together to showcase examples of new and original ideas and projects of how we can make our environment healthier and more sustainable.

RISE for Schools competition encourages school students to make their voices heard about their research and ideas on how to make a more sustainable world.

Congratulations to students Barleen K and Abhay K for winning the ‘best poster’ in their age category. We are extremely proud of their passion, creativity and dedication to science, sustainability and thinking of ways to help our planet.

Their posters will be displayed at the SEEDS conference for researchers from across the world to see!

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
