Principals Update
We started our week by celebrating the Sri Rama Mandhir opening within the school. Our worship hall was open during break and lunch for students to visit and pray, take part in an arti ceremony, watch highlights and live streams from Ayodhya, as well as listen to and sing devotional songs. The sacred deities of Lord Rama were placed on our school alter for staff and students for darshan and prayer.
Teaching and Learning
This year, the Avanti Schools Trust has been embedding a common framework for teaching and learning across their schools. The framework includes 12 Teacher Habits, 6 of which are foundational – creating the conditions for learning, and 6 are pedagogical – how we activate hard thinking.
Throughout the Autumn term the school has been reviewing how these habits are being delivered around the school and the below are our current areas of strength.
- Foundational Habits
- Habit 1: Build positive relationships with pupils and each other
- Habit 3: Use intentional seating and classroom set up
- Pedagogical Habits
- Habit 7: Activate daily review of prior learning
- Habit 10: Give opportunities for guided and independent practice
School Traffic and Parking
Periodically this year, parents would have seen school staff outside of the school gates at both Furrow View and Thurmaston Lane requesting that parents follow the traffic restrictions in place. Although our statutory duty ends at the school gate, we do this in the interests of pupil safety. Unfortunately, there have been times where school staff have been verbally abused or outright ignored by our parents.
Following a traffic incident outside of school today, I have sent all of our parents a communication around our expectations for considerate driving around Avanti Fields School.

Rights Respecting Schools Award:
This year, our school has signed up to work with UNICEF UK, to begin our journey to becoming a Rights Respecting School. You will have received communication in the form of a letter, about what that means for our school and children, from Miss Savadia. Please see Miss Savadia if you have any questions.
UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation working to ensure that children across the world access and enjoy their full range of human rights as set out in the 1989 UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. UNICEF stands for the United Nations Childrens Fund.
“A Rights Respecting School is a place where we can all feel confident with ourselves and it encourages us to use our voice. It has helped me build my confidence. It has helped me raise awareness of injustice in the world”.

***Year 1 only***:
Miss Savadia will be forming a steering group of children who want to learn about their rights and who want to lead the change.
If your child is in Year 1, and would like to be a part of this, please encourage them to write a manifesto and return this to Miss Savadia by Thursday 1st February 2024. If any parents would like to be a part of this steering group too, please see Miss Savadia directly, as we would like our steering group to include parents/governors.
For the Year 1 children, please see the competition poster below.
RRSA Article of the Week
Every week, children will be learning about an ‘Article of the Week’. This will help our children to learn and develop an understanding about the Convention on the Rights of the Child articles.
This weeks RRSA focus: Making Rights Happen
Article’s you could explore which link to this topic: 1, 41 and 14

Here is an activity you can do at home:
Under the CRC, children are rights holders; governments and adults are duty bearers who are responsible for making sure children’s rights are met. At home, talk about who the duty bearers are in your school and write cards to thank them for making sure that children’s rights are enjoyed at school.
Number day
We are taking part in Number Day 2024 on Friday 2nd February 2024, which is part of raising money for NSPCC. The children can wear clothes with numbers on or representation of numbers. As part of this, please bring in £1 to go towards the charity.
The children will have an opportunity to take part in a best dressed in numbers competition too! There will be a chosen winner from each year group. Have fun and be creative with your numerical costumes!

Year 7/8 – Girls Football
Congratulations to our year 7/8 girls football team who managed to become East Leicester City Champions which will see us face Lancaster in the next round to determine who the overall City champions will be. We played games against Crown Hills who we beat 4-0 and then Moat where the score was 2-0. Player of the match went to Priyanshi who scored 5 of our goals. Great display of team work and some fantastic football being played by the girls. Thanks to our two sports ambassadors; Krit who refereed the games and gave up his time and Anaiya who coached the team.
Contacting the School
Communications – Wherever possible please use the contact form on our website to get in touch. This is detailed on the website at https://avanti.org.uk/avantifields/contact-us/. The appropriate member of staff will pick up the message and get back to you as soon as possible.
Absence
To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)
Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)
Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.
All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.
The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.
This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
