Principals Update

This week we have held the first of our secondary parent evenings for Year 8 students and parents. For secondary parents, we use an online system to keep strictly to a 5 minute timing with each family to discuss the progress of their child. Next week we have our Y11 parent evening, which will form a key point for students to understand where they can improve from their first round of mock exams. We have asked all staff to prepare for these meetings by knowing areas of strength and development for each pupil, where to signpost relevant revision or intervention materials and ensuring a clear understanding of the child’s progress and likely outcome in their subject.

Our Year 11 students have begun to prepare for their upcoming college and sixth form applications by participating in a round of mock interviews. The mock interviews provide pupils with an opportunity to sit in a ‘formal’ interview, practice and receive feedback on how they present themselves and tips on what they can include in their college interviews.

Career Opportunities

The school currently has a number of career opportunities out for advert that might be suitable for members of our parent community.

Attendance

Well done to Buttercup class for winning the attendance trophy, for having 100% attendance this week! We love to see so many children come to school every day and hope this high streak of attendance can continue! A big well done to Daisy class for being so close too, with 90.67% attendance!

Bluebell and Buttercup class are so close to reaching ‘Neptune’…I wonder who will get there first! Or will Snowdrop or Daisy class take the lead? The winners will get a special treat with Miss Savadia, at the end of the term!

Attending school on time and regularly is highly important for your child’s development as it allows them to access our full curriculum. Thank you for your support as co-educators. I wonder who will be the attendance winners next week?

Rights Respecting Schools Award

This year, our school has signed up to work with UNICEF UK, to begin our journey to becoming a Rights Respecting School. You will have received communication in the form of a letter, about what that means for our school and children, from Miss Savadia. Please see Miss Savadia if you have any questions or please attend the RRSA introductory workshop on the 22nd January 2024 at 3.00pm.

UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation working to ensure that children across the world access and enjoy their full range of human rights as set out in the 1989 UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. UNICEF stands for the United Nations Childrens Fund.

A Rights Respecting School is a place where we can all feel confident with ourselves and it encourages us to use our voice. It has helped me build my confidence. It has helped me raise awareness of injustice in the world”.

***Year 1 only***:

Miss Savadia will be forming a steering group of children who want to learn about their rights and who want to lead the change.

If your child is in Year 1, and would like to be a part of this, please encourage them to write a manifesto and return this to Miss Savadia by Thursday 1st February 2024. If any parents would like to be a part of this steering group too, please see Miss Savadia directly, as we would like our steering group to include parents/governors.

For the Year 1 children, please see the competition poster below.

Number day

We are taking part in Number Day 2024 on Friday 2nd February 2024, which is part of raising money for NSPCC. The children can wear clothes with numbers on or representation of numbers. As part of this, please bring in £1 to go towards the charity.

Parents Evening- Reminder

Parents evenings will take place on the 30th January and 1st February.

We have decided to have our parents’ evenings face to face so that you can see your child’s learning environment and some of their pieces of work.

Each parents meeting will last no longer than 10 minutes to ensure everyone gets the same amount of time. The parents evening meeting will cover the following-
How has your child has progressed since the last meeting?
What have we noticed they are excelling in?
What are your child’s next steps and how you can support this at home?

Please click on the following link below to book in a slot by 26th January.

Spring term pastoral focus: Standing up for diversity

In the Spring term, our pastoral focus will on ensuring that disrespectful, racial, or homophobic language is not tolerated within our school, including being spoken in a language other than English. We will be launching an initiative to promote upstanders to report unkind behaviour and stand up for diversity within the school. Although this is not a problem at our school, we believe that having a term’s focus on this will support all students to continue to feel save and valued within our community. Please click here to view our assembly slides.

Year 9/10 – Girls Football

Congratulations to our Year 9/10 girls football team who played in the KS4 girls football competition this week. We beat Crown Hills, drew to City of Leicester and beat Judgemeadow and won our group stages. We then faced Orchard Mead in the final and won through a challenging game which went to sudden death penalties. The girls showed true resilience and kept going in tough conditions which paid off. We now face Babington who were winners of the West to determine who will become City Champion. Also a special mention to Jesson Manji who refereed all the games as a sports ambassador.

Monday 22nd January 2024 – Sri Rama Mandir Opening Celebration

Monday 22nd January 2024 is a historic day for Hindus all over the world, as the consecration of the mandir in Ayodhya India will be taking place. It’s a monumental day, of deep religious significance, as the sacred deity of Lord Rama will be installed with huge festivities in the inner sanctum of one of the most sacred sites in Hinduism.

To celebrate this holy occasion, the Worship Hall will be available for students to visit and pray, and take part in an arti ceremony, watch highlights and live streams from Ayodhya, as well as listen to and sing devotional songs. This will be during P5a and P5b. (Lunch A and Lunch B). Students are welcome to attend in their own lunch time, and not during lesson time.

The sacred deities of Lord Rama will be placed on our school altar for students and staff for darshan and prayer.

Please note:  Students must wear proper school Uniform.

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
