RRSA Article of the Week

Week focus: Article 2

All children have the rights set out in the UNCRC, and individual children and young people shouldn’t be discriminated against when these rights are realised. This covers both direct and indirect discrimination.

Here is an activity you can do at home:

Draw a picture of a woman or girl that you look up to. This might be a member of your family, someone at school or someone you have learned about. Bring your picture in and share it with your friends and teachers.

Holi Event

We will be holding a ‘festival of colours’ event on 22nd March. We would like all children to experience the traditions of Holi with a festival of colours event. As the event involves the throwing of powdered paint, we are kindly asking for all children to come in old clothes, preferably white to show all the colours. If your child is in uniform that day, they will unfortunately not be able to participate.

Gaura Purnima celebration

We are celebrating Gaura Purnima Festival on Friday 22nd March. Students are welcome to come in traditional dress for the day, appropriate to the festivity. Students not wishing to come in traditional clothes should wear school uniform. Students who have PE on the day may choose to NOT bring their kit if they want to remain in their traditional clothes.

Our festival celebration will have students spend time in the worship hall where they will get to bathe a baby Krishna, and will be learning about the traditions and meaning behind Gaura Purnima celebrations.

Girls in Computing event – Thursday 14th March 2023

The Girls in Computing event, run by Jaspal Singh (Director of Academic ICT and digital technologies – Nxt Gen Innovators), was aimed at encouraging girls to think about choosing Computing/IT as a GCSE option and/or as a career. It was an inspiring event which encouraged the year 9 girls to really think about their options for GCSE and potentially choose a career in the field of computing and technology, which they may previously have never considered. The event was fun packed with much ‘food for thought’, group challenges and competitions.

Students feedback:

Dhriti Lakhani – 9 Water

“I liked the event as everyone had a chance to participate and complete new challenges. It has also encouraged me to pick computer science as one of my options for GCSE.”

Yashani Teli – 9 Water

“I think that the Girls in Computing event was an incredible experience and I really enjoyed it. If I had the opportunity to do it again, I would. The visitors were really nice, and the activities were unique and fun. Thank you so much for inviting me”.

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
