Principals Update

I want to thank all the parents who have provided feedback and completed the consultation on the changes to the secondary timings and parent evening arrangements. Consultation has now closed and feedback and final decisions will be communicated to parents after the half-term.

This term, the Trust also asked parents, staff and students to complete a Trust-wide survey. This week principal’s have had a deep dive into our school data. Please look out for feedback and actions from the survey data next half-term.

Finally, after the half-term our Year 11 students will begin study leave. Today I want to take the time to wish them well on their remaining examinations and look forward to celebrating their graduation at the Prom in June.

Year 11 Cricket

Well done to our year 11 cricket team on their performance in the cricket. We played Judgemeadow and City of Leicester in our group and we claimed victory against Judgemeadow which was a memorable way for the year 11s to end their time doing competitive sport at Avanti. A special mention goes to Dakshin and Ved who always step up as captains. They organise, manage and lead the team and fully take control of everything; Rutik who stayed in as batsman and scored 25 runs on his own as well as achieving a maiden over; Pratham for his calmness and focus as wicket keeper; Prem, Vaiden and Shiv put on great overall performances. Well done – a brilliant way to the end the year.

University of Leicester trip – English

60 year 8 students had the opportunity of visiting The University of Leicester as part of their English outreach programme. It gave students the opportunity to learn more about life at university as well as the vast range of courses that are available. The trip included a campus tour as well as a creative writing workshop based around the unit they have been studying on gothic literature.

Community Garden Fundraising

The Severn Trent funding we have secured pays for most of the infrastructure works needed for the project but we still have to route a water source to the site, buy lots of tools and equipment, seeds, plants and lots more. We have secured some additional funding from the AVIVA ‘Save our Wild Isles Community Fund’ but we need your help on this Crowdfunding Opportunity.

For the next 6 weeks Aviva will match every £1 donated to the project on a 1:2 basis, so if someone pledges £10, Aviva will add another £20 to the project, creating a total of £30 (Upto £5,000 and then on a 1:1 basis thereafter)

Any contribution large or small will be hugely appreciated, the link to donate is below. If you are considering making a large donation, please email us on [email protected]

Avanti Fields Community Garden / Allotment Project: https://www.avivacommunityfund.co.uk/p/avanti-fields-community-garden-allotment-project-1

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
