Principals Update

A very warm welcome to the summer term! I hope you have all taken time for your hobbies and interests and connected with family and friends.

I would like welcome back Miss K.P. Patel who is returning from her sabbatical and re-joining the secondary PRE team. We also have a number of new staff who have joined us for the Summer term; Ms. Corrigan – cover supervisor, Ms. Gangani – primary teaching assistant, Ms. Sayed – secondary teaching assistant, Mrs. Lord – secondary academic mentor (joined near the end of the Spring term).

A save the date reminder for this term: INSET Day – Friday 24th May. The school will be closed to pupils to allow staff their final INSET training day to review school priorities and work on strategies to improve whole school wellbeing.

Finally, I want to say a massive thank you to Miss Olusanya for her organisation of the inaugural Talent Show! Miss Olusanya led a fantastic team of staff and student helpers to make the evening happen. It was fantastic to see the wide range of talents displayed by our secondary pupils; singing, dancing, poetry composition and reading, martial arts displays as well as a number of pupils who displayed their musical and theatrical abilities. It was truly an inspiring evening and was lovely to see our students shine.

RRSA Article of the Week

Miss Savadia’s Rights Respecting Ambassadors were hard at work today, creating posters for World Water Day 2024. Can you make a poster about why having clean water is an important right to have? Bring it to Miss Savadia by 15.04.24 and we will display them around our classes!

Article 24

Every child has the right to the best possible health. Governments must provide good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food, and a clean environment and education on health and well-being so that children can stay healthy. Richer countries must help poorer countries achieve this.

We will be focusing on World Water Day which is on the 22nd of March, and why children think the right to clean water is such an important right.

You may want to talk about possible reasons including:

  • Drinking dirty, unsafe water can cause serious illnesses.
  • In some communities, children miss out on their education because they must spend time collecting water.
  • A good water supply is important for good sanitation and flushing our toilets.

Here is an activity you can do at home.

Take a glass of water. It looks ordinary but is actually very special because we all need water to stay alive. Think about all the times water is important to you in your day, like on a hot day after you have been playing. Draw pictures of you or your friends enjoying water.

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
