Principals Update

It has been a busy week across the school! Primary colleagues have hosted transition stay and play sessions, Year 7 and 8 students have finished a 4-day collective worship trial, a selection of Year 8 pupils attended the Big Bang Fair, Year 10 pupils are at their work experience placements and today we held our secondary Ratha Yatra festival activities. Amongst all of that activity, we have also welcomed a number of new staff for their induction day, prior to joining us in the new academic year. The passion and enthusiasm of our incoming staff was wonderful to see. And finally, tonight we host our first ever Year 11 Prom.

The senior team and myself have hosted a number of year-group parent forums to wrap up any final concerns with the lockdown, with the final session due to run this afternoon. I want to thank all of the parents who attended as your feedback and suggested improvements were insightful in how we can improve for the future. Coming from this forum, at the start of next academic year I will be hosting a series of behaviour forums. Do look out for the details after the summer. And a reminder that the final ‘Communication’ forum is set to be held on Tuesday 27th June at 2:30pm in the Main Hall.

This work with our parent stakeholders is running alongside the wrap-up and reflections of the year. The staff and senior teams are working in the background to finalise school improvement priorities, update our behaviour routines, focus on our teaching and learning practices and planning extra-curricular events for next year. Next week’s bulletin will focus on sharing some of this documentation with the parent community prior to the holidays.

Finally, I want to share with you a message from the first graduating cohort of an Avanti school. The students in the video below attended Krishna Avanti Primary School in Harrow, which opened as the first Hindu-faith school in the country. These students progressed onto Avanti House Secondary School and remained for the sixth form. They are now all at university but still maintain strong links with the Avanti Family.

Have a lovely weekend.

County Lines Workshop

County Lines workshops 29.06.23:

County Lines involves gangs from large urban areas who will often target and exploit young people into criminal behaviour, it is important to recognise that these children are victims of criminal exploitation and may face grooming or be controlled into partaking in County Lines through threats, violence or abuse. We have been given the opportunity to attend a virtual workshop organised and delivered by Police school links on 29.06.23 with Year 9 and Year 10 to raise awareness around County Lines, the impact of this on individuals/families and how young people can keep themselves safe.

Summer reading challenge 2023

Summer Reading Challenge 2023

Dear all,

The Summer Reading Challenge encourages children to use their local library and maintain their reading habit through the summer and aims to mitigate the dip in performance associated with a long break from reading, that many children experience in the new school year.

From 1 July until the 17 September, children 0-15 years can sign up to take part and complete the six-book challenge. Our offer is enhanced with a range of free family activities, all designed to promote reading for pleasure and the joy of sharing books and stories.

A Ready, Set Read! invitation bookmark has been sent for every child in primary school and, as an additional incentive, will offer a £100 book prize to the school from which the highest percentage of pupils complete the challenge.

For further information about our full programme of activities please visit leicester.gov.uk/summerreadingchallenge.

Promotional images for use on your digital screens are available to download from the Schools’ Extranet.

We hope you will join us in encouraging your children to keep reading this summer.

Contacting the School

Communications – Wherever possible please use the contact form on our website to get in touch. This is detailed on the website at https://avanti.org.uk/avantifields/contact-us/. The appropriate member of staff will pick up the message and get back to you as soon as possible.

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
