Principals Update

Last week our Year 10 students had an opportunity to attend a careers networking event. The event saw a number of visitors come to discuss their careers, the journey they had to get to his point in their career and give students a chance to enhance their communication and networking skills.

In light of the incident on Wednesday last week, I will be running a series of parent forums. If you would be interested in attending, can you please complete this form: https://avanti.wufoo.com/forms/afs-parent-forum/. Based on numbers, we will then invite all parents to attend in small groups for a Q&A session. The parent forum sign-up will be closed at the end of school tomorrow.
Additionally, on Monday last week I communicatee an opportunity for parents to attend a town hall to discuss the communication strategies used by the school (based on AST Spring Parent Survey). I will be holding two (duplicate) sessions on Tuesday 13th June 4:00pm-5:00pm, or Tuesday 27th June 2:30pm-3:30pm. I have already communicated with parents attending tomorrow, so if you would still like to attend, please register for the event on Tuesday 27th June. Please complete this form: https://avanti.wufoo.com/forms/afs-parent-townhall-attendance/. [Please note that this will not be the forum to discuss the incident on Wednesday last week, or the communications sent surrounding it].
Finally, this week and next on Thursday and Friday, Year 7 and 8 pupils will be participating in a collective worship trial. Rather than just participating in Kirtan for collective worship, students will be able to opt to attend one of the following sessions for the 4-day trial: Kirtan, Yoga, Music (learning traditional instruments), Mindset, Scripture, Wisdom or Meditation. Feedback from the staff and pupils will shape how we approach collective worship for next academic year.

Community Garden Fundraising

The Severn Trent funding we have secured pays for most of the infrastructure works needed for the project but we still have to route a water source to the site, buy lots of tools and equipment, seeds, plants and lots more. We have secured some additional funding from the AVIVA ‘Save our Wild Isles Community Fund’ but we need your help on this Crowdfunding Opportunity.

For the next 6 weeks Aviva will match every £1 donated to the project on a 1:2 basis, so if someone pledges £10, Aviva will add another £20 to the project, creating a total of £30 (Upto £5,000 and then on a 1:1 basis thereafter)

Any contribution large or small will be hugely appreciated, the link to donate is below. If you are considering making a large donation, please email us on [email protected]

Avanti Fields Community Garden / Allotment Project: https://www.avivacommunityfund.co.uk/p/avanti-fields-community-garden-allotment-project-1

Please share this link with friends, family and business contacts as every pound donated will make a difference to what we can achieve.

Contacting the School

Communications – Wherever possible please use the contact form on our website to get in touch. This is detailed on the website at https://avanti.org.uk/avantifields/contact-us/. The appropriate member of staff will pick up the message and get back to you as soon as possible.

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
