Principals Update

This week will be our final Friday parent bulletin of the academic year. Next week parents will receive year group specific emails to confirm end of year and start of year arrangements and we will be sharing a celebratory newsletter on Monday 10th July to wrap up the year. On Wednesday 12th July, secondary pupils will finish early at 12:45pm and primary pupils will finish at their regular 2:45pm/3:00pm time.

Today our primary parents celebrated Ratha Yatra with a traditional dress day and also did a selection of activities linked to Ratha Yatra. Families are invited to join the city wide celebrations on Sunday. Please read further in the bulletin for details.

Next week a selection of our Year 9 pupils will be going to Wales for a Geography trip. In addition to this, we are looking forward to welcoming Year 6 pupils on Wednesday 5th July for their transition day. Although the 5th is a planned NEU industrial action day, we are able to continue with our planned transition.

Summer reading challenge 2023

Summer Reading Challenge 2023

Dear all,

The Summer Reading Challenge encourages children to use their local library and maintain their reading habit through the summer and aims to mitigate the dip in performance associated with a long break from reading, that many children experience in the new school year.

From 1 July until the 17 September, children 0-15 years can sign up to take part and complete the six-book challenge. Our offer is enhanced with a range of free family activities, all designed to promote reading for pleasure and the joy of sharing books and stories.

A Ready, Set Read! invitation bookmark has been sent for every child in primary school and, as an additional incentive, will offer a £100 book prize to the school from which the highest percentage of pupils complete the challenge.

For further information about our full programme of activities please visit leicester.gov.uk/summerreadingchallenge.

Promotional images for use on your digital screens are available to download from the Schools’ Extranet.

We hope you will join us in encouraging your children to keep reading this summer.

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
