Principals Update

Welcome to the first parent bulletin of the year! It has been wonderful to welcome our new Nursery, Reception and Year 7 students and welcome back our Year 8-11 students. We are finally becoming the all-through school we have planned for.

This year has seen a large expansion in our school staff due to ever increasing student numbers and an expansion of our school curriculum. I have the pleasure of confirming that I am the substantive and full-time Principal for Avanti Fields and relish the opportunity of taking the school on the next stages of its journey. Over the coming weeks, I will look forward to welcoming parents into the school for information evenings and having a chance to meet you in person.

I would like to welcome the following members of staff: Mr B Parmar – Mathematics, Miss B Dhamelia – Mathematics, Miss B Schavier – Mathematics, Miss L Monia – English, Mrs S Odedra – Science, Mrs B Patel – Design Technology, Miss S Jones – Music, Miss M Ordonez – Spanish, Mr S Kent – Humanities, Mr B Richardson – PRE, Mrs H Joshi – HLTA (secondary), Miss M Tomaszczuk – Teaching Assistant (secondary), Ms E Williams – Nursery, Ms S Savadia – Reception, Ms K Solgama – Reception, Mrs M Dave – HLTA (primary), Ms H Urmaji – Teaching Assistant (primary), Ms Y Rashid – Teaching Assistant (primary), Ms B Patel – Teaching Assistant (primary).

At the end of last academic year, the school received a lovely letter from Claudia Webbe, MP for Leicester East, congratulating us on our National Physics Competition success. Please do take the time to read it and join me in congratulating Anaiya Dattani, Dhariti Raythathatha, Prarthana Shukla and Serena Varia. A big well done and thank you to the Science team for organising these enrichment opportunities.

GCSE Results

Huge congratulations to Ved Patel (11 Fire), Tanisha Patel (11 Fire), Niyam Patel (9 Water), Tithi Patel (9 Earth) for completing their Gujarati GCSE early last term. They worked incredibly hard in their own time, demonstrating our Avanti values and achieved fantastic results that will add to their GCSE portfolio. We are extremely proud of them all and they truly deserve the success. A special mention to Ved Patel and Niyam Patel who achieved a grade 9 – an outstanding achievement!

Contacting the School

Communications – Wherever possible please use the contact form on our website to get in touch. This is detailed on the website at https://avanti.org.uk/avantifields/contact-us/. The appropriate member of staff will pick up the message and get back to you as soon as possible.

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.

Parent Pay and Meals

The school is working to resolve the concerns raised for new secondary parents around ParentPay and meal payments. There is currently an issue with ParentPay not syncing with the meal system. This means that ParentPay accounts are not showing when the balance has changed after a meal has been taken. We anticipate that the problems will be resolved by next week.

I want to reassure parents that our admin team is able to see any money paid into your child’s ParentPay account and we can also separately track which meal and snack items your child has taken since the start of term. We will communicate with parents once fixed.

All new parents have been sent email details of how to set up and use their ParentPay accounts and we have also provided a printed letter to students to take home today. Can you please ensure that you have put funds into your child’s account by Monday.
