Principals Update

This week has seen the school welcome a Challenge Partners review team on site. The review has gone smoothly and all parts of the school were seen throughout the visit, from Nursery outdoor provision to Year 11’s preparing for the upcoming mock examinations. In next week’s bulletin I will share some key highlights from the report with the school community.

Advance notice: Year 9 Parent Consultation Evening date change
Due to the planned industrial strike action on Wednesday 15th March, we have made the decision to move the Year 9 Parent Consultation Evening from Wednesday to Monday 13th March. There will be an early finish for all secondary students on Monday 13th March. We hope that giving a months advance notice will allow parents to make appropriate arrangements.

The school has organised for form group (secondary) and class (primary) photos to be taken on Monday 27th February. This is the first day after the half-term. Please look out for further details after the photos have been taken to place your orders.

Finally, you may have heard news that Mr Koorichh, principal at Krishna Avanti Primary School, will be moving to become the principal of Avanti Court Primary School from September 2023. Avanti Court is where Mr Koorichh began his Avanti journey and it is lovely to see him return to his roots next academic year.

If your child is in uniform that day, they will not be able to participate.

TOP of the Bench Competition

Well done to our Avanti Chemistry team making it to the regional finals of the ‘Top of the Bench’ competition, hosted by the University of Derby. The girls were selected from the first round of internal chemistry tests open to all year 11,10 and 9 pupils. The top scoring pupils then entered the online RSC quizzes during their lunch times and girls were within the highest scoring in region. It was so great to see our girls dedication by giving up their weekend to represent Avanti Fields School. The students had to complete a range of activities throughout the day. They started with a team quiz, followed by a practical challenge and ended the day with a fantastic demonstration delivered by the staff at the University. Our students worked collaboratively, and it was lovely to see their team working skills develop throughout the day. We look forward to entering more Avanti Science teams next year in the Top of the Bench Competition and hope our Students experience the same level of success! Huge congratulations to Keyri A(Y 11), Veda P (Y 10) Dhiya B and Meisha P (Y 9).

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
