Principals Update

This half term has been another busy six weeks with a range of enrichment opportunities, including sports fixtures, student leadership opportunities, science competitions, the Oxford university trip, inspirational careers talks, various clubs, launch of the international Peru trip as well as the fantastic PTFA events.  All these opportunities have provided students to further develop their character and demonstrate our Avanti core principles and values, and it has been heart warming listening to students speak about the success and enjoyment they have had through these experiences.

Our student leadership committee meet regularly to organise various events and continue to strengthen the school provision by taking on board student feedback and ideas. The Year 10 student prefects have been an asset to the school, truly embodying the Avanti Way and rising to the challenge.

In lessons across the curriculum, students have been learning new knowledge and concepts, building on prior learning. It is a privilege to go into lessons and observe students actively engaged and taking responsibility for their own learning.  Our students are keen to share what they have been learning and it has been a pleasure to see some of brilliant work produced by our students across the curriculum.

Please do follow us on Twitter @AvantiFields to keep updated with school events, see students’ work, and read parent bulletins. I would like to wish our whole school community a wonderful half term break.  We look forward to welcoming our students and staff back into school on Monday 27th February.

Primary News

Dear Primary Parents and Carers,

We are now halfway through the academic year and as the Head of Primary I have taken the time to reflect on this. The children have excelled beyond my expectations and every time I walk through the primary, I see smiling faces and a buzz of excitement. I want to also take this moment to thank all the parents who have supported the primary by attending workshops, parents’ evenings and keeping up with the great events we have on the primary calendar to make the events come to life. We are the Avanti Family and without your support it would not be the same. It reminds me of one of our core principles:

We are nourished by personal relationships that fulfil our need to love and be loved, encouraging us to be the best we can be.

It is through the strong parental relationships and community links that we have our most great successes.

I hope you all have a fantastic half term and look forward to seeing all the children back on the 27th February.

Kindest Regards

Ms Thakore

NSPCC Business Challenge

A huge well done to some of our student leaders who took part in the NSPCC business challenge where they had £20 to think of an idea to raise as much money as possible. They raised a total of £535 and we were the first school to take part in the initiative.

TOP of the Bench Competition

Well done to our Avanti Chemistry team making it to the regional finals of the ‘Top of the Bench’ competition, hosted by the University of Derby. The girls were selected from the first round of internal chemistry tests open to all year 11,10 and 9 pupils. The top scoring pupils then entered the online RSC quizzes during their lunch times and girls were within the highest scoring in region. It was so great to see our girls dedication by giving up their weekend to represent Avanti Fields School. The students had to complete a range of activities throughout the day. They started with a team quiz, followed by a practical challenge and ended the day with a fantastic demonstration delivered by the staff at the University. Our students worked collaboratively, and it was lovely to see their team working skills develop throughout the day. We look forward to entering more Avanti Science teams next year in the Top of the Bench Competition and hope our Students experience the same level of success! Huge congratulations to Keyri A(Y 11), Veda P (Y 10) Dhiya B and Meisha P (Y 9).

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
