Principals Update

This week the school welcomed a visit from Najeeb Patel, the new Chair of the Federation of Muslim Organisations Leicester. His visit continues the work that we do and we look forward to growing our partnership with their organisation.

We have had a wonderful celebration of reading week right through the school. Secondary pupils could attend a book fair at the start of the week and our primary pupils have had their book fair, a story teller visit and their dress-up day to showcase their favourite book characters.

As our year 11 students approach their GCSE examinations, we are beginning our recruitment for exam invigilators. If you would be interested in becoming an invigilator, please complete this short form: https://avanti.wufoo.com/forms/afs-recruitment-pool/. Further details are provided later in the bulletin.

Statement from Avanti Fields School

“Avanti Schools Trust runs Hindu faith state schools across the country, welcoming children of all faiths and none. Our schools are extremely popular with Hindu and non-Hindu parents alike who want an outstanding, disciplined and inclusive environment for learning for their children. As a school and as a trust, discrimination of any kind runs entirely contrary to our values. We are taking the allegations raised on social media extremely seriously, and they are being looked into as a matter of urgency. We are supporting the student and their family, and also working with the local community to provide wider support for our school at this time.”

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
