Principals Update

As the Easter holidays approach, I want to thank all of our parents and carers for your continued support of the school and your children. I also want to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation for the hard work of my teachers and other support and admin staff. I am grateful for their tireless efforts to ensure that your children receive the best possible education.

I want to encourage everyone in our school community to take the next couple of weeks for some well-deserved time to rest and recharge.

This week our primary pupils have been creating beautiful and imaginative Easter bonnets and it was a pleasure inviting their parents in to attend the bonnet parade. This afternoon a small number of our Year 7 pupils have connected with the residents of a local assisted living facility. Through reading, we are pleased to promote stronger connections between the young and the elderly.

I would like to thank Swayamsevak Sangh and K-Direct for a generous donation of journal books and stationary to the school. Their donation will form part of our end of year celebration assemblies to recognise the achievements of our students.

On Friday and Saturday evening last week, the PTFA hosted Bhavik Haria for two nights of concerts. The auditorium was booked out for both evenings and I had the pleasure of meeting Bhavik in person. It was a fantastic evening and I want to thank the PTFA for their behind the scenes efforts. Part of the money raised by the event will go towards purchasing musical instruments for our primary pupils next year, which support their collective worship and kirtan.

I want to personally thank all the parents for getting involved in making the bonnets with your children and making the parade such a success!

All donations can be given on the day to the class teachers.

CPR Training

On Tuesday last week Year 10 students took part in CPR training with Heartwize and East Midlands Ambulance Service.

Learning CPR and how to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) is an important life skill.

Building on this initiative, we want to invite you to join the Heartwize Avanti Initiative.

JOIN “HEARTWIZE AVANTI” TO CREATE A GENERATION OF YOUNG LIFESAVERS??

A call to the Avanti Fields community for volunteer trainers in Resuscitation

Background

  • Heartwize is a prizewinning Charity programme teaching simple but vital skills of CPR and use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) to year 10 pupils.
  • Volunteer trainers are recruited from people who themselves have CPR/AED skills and deliver a Heartwize module.
  • The major Public Health issue is the dismal chances of survival for victims of Cardiac Arrest (under 10% survival vs 30-35% that could be achieved).
  • The Heartwize aims to ensure ALL secondary school pupils could give a victim of cardiac arrest a chance if needed.
  • Over 50,000 pupils and 1500 adults have received  practical small group sessions.
  • Students and trainers both give very high approval ratings for Heartwize.

Sustaining the Heartwize delivery is a challenge! Please consider this request from the Avanti Fields Academy and Heartwize Directors to recruit a local trainer group and ensure the programme for the future.

……..COULD YOU JOIN THIS GROUP?

  • Heartwize will prepare/refresh volunteers’ CPR and AED use.
  • You would work with Heartwize trainers.
  • Only a few sessions over the school year.
  • No DBS checks needed

Do you have CPR & AED training?

And willing to volunteer a few daytime sessions to train year 10 pupils?

If interested please complete this form: https://avanti.wufoo.com/forms/afs-heartwize-avanti-interest-form/

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
