Principals Update

This week and next our Year 11 students begin to complete important modules within both their Drama and Art curriculum that will contribute to their overall GCSE grades. We wish the students well in their examinations. Tonight we are also hosting a parent workshop around supporting with examination stress.

50 students in Year 10 will be returning from their Belgium Avanti Quest retreat later this evening and remaining Year 10 pupils worked with the Heartwize Resuscitation team on Tuesday to learn CPR.

Our primary pupils have begun curriculum based activities that build up to the Easter holidays. Students have begun to make Easter bonnets, which will be judged next week. Nursery and Reception parents will also have another opportunity to participate in parent workshops next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Leading into the Easter break, I would like to share a piece written by Mr Gajjar, Head of Philosophy, Religion and Ethics. This time of year is important to many people from various religious backgrounds. It is not just Easter that is celebrated in the spring; Ramanavami, Ramadan and Vaishaki are also celebrated.

Aspiring to follow the ideal…

While we break for Easter, here are four celebrations that bring us together to deepen and nurture our spiritual insight:

Our Hindu families will be coming together this weekend to celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Rama (28th  March). Famous for his victory over the demon Ravan in the story of Diwali, Lord Rama’s appearance in this world teaches us how to be ideal in character. Rama was the ideal son – obedient in all trying circumstances. Rama was the ideal husband – embracing his duty of care and protection, and his determination to rescue Sita. Rama was the ideal King, serving his citizens as His very children. On this occasion, we pray to also be ideal in our service to others. Many Hindus have also been observing the nine days of Navaratri leading up this auspicious day. A Happy Ramanavami to everyone!

Our Muslim families have started the month long fast of Ramadan (23rd March – 21st April). Along with their fast from sunrise to sunset, Muslims take time out to reflect, study scripture and celebrate this opportunity to become ideal practitioners of Islam. This holy month also encourages compassion and charity for the less fortunate. Wishing everyone observing this holy month Ramadan Kareem.

Our Sikh families are preparing to celebrate the joyous festival of Vaishaki – (14th April) the Sikh New Year. Along with the tradition of dance and street kirtan, the sharing of food, this is the day the celebrates the coming together of and defining the Sikh community. Remembrance and glorification of Guru Gobind Singh Ji is at the heart of this celebration. He stood for justice, protection and demonstrated the ideal saintliness of a Sikh warrior. A very Happy Vaishaki!

Our Christian families await the celebration of Easter, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus (7th -10th April). Jesus lived to share the message of God with everyone. He was the ideal lover of God – compassionate to all and ready to the bear the sin of the world upon himself. His crucifixion is a great act of sacrifice in his service to God. His resurrection, a celebration of conquering death and offering the hope of salvation to all. With prayers for hope for all our families and our world, a Happy Easter to everyone!

Each celebration and observance encourage one theme – how might I become of ideal character? We might not reach to the same heights of realisation as these amazing personalities, it’s nonetheless a useful question to ponder as we break for Eater holidays. Wishing you all a reflective time over this Easter break.

Dear Primary Parents and Carers,

It has been great week. Nursery children continue to learn about people who help us and even had the opportunity to meet paramedics and a real ambulance!

Holi

We will be re-scheduling the Holi event on the 31st March. As the event involves the throwing of powdered paint, we are kindly asking for all children to come in old clothes, preferably white to show all the colours. If your child is in uniform that day, they will not be able to participate.

Nursery morning children only

As the event is taking place in the afternoon, we are inviting nursery AM children to the event, however parents will be expected to remain on school grounds during the event. We will have a tea and coffee room for all AM parents who wish to attend. This will be at 2.00pm.

Competition time! As we get closer to the Easter holidays, we will be holding an Easter bonnet competition. All entries must be bought into school on the day of your class’s Easter parent workshop.

Earth day celebrations

WORLD BOOK DAY 2023

There have been lots of activities taking place over the last few weeks in conjunction with World Book Day, including the first ever Scholastic Book Fair which was very popular as well as all students being gifted free World Book day titles by the English department. Vrindavan and Haridwar Dham on yatra (pilgrimage)

Hare Krishna Everyone!

We’re very excited to announce that we will be taking a group of visitors to Vrindavan and Haridwar Dham on yatra (pilgrimage) from 15-26 Oct 2023! That’s 11 nights during the Oct half term break!

Once you land in India, everything will be taken care of for you! 🤗

This yatra will be specially catered for families and children so as to make it easier and more enjoyable for them to connect with the sacred and holy land of Bharat!

Our priority is to take KAPs and Avanti Fields parents, staff and children (who will have grown up together in a sense) and give them a chance to have this joyful spiritual experience together.

We’ll be visiting many holy places and hearing about the significance from special guests and local Sadhus!

I can guarantee it’ll be a spiritually enlightening and transformative experience, one that will leave deep positive impressions on the mind. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity for our children to establish connections with the spiritual gifts of India and to solidify our Dharmic identities while making life long friends and memories!

Spaces are limited and the flight ticket prices will keep increasing (which you have to book yourselves). Before I open it up to others, I’d like to give priority to Avanti Fields families.

If you are interested, please get in touch ASAP for more info on 07872469754.

Sincerely,

Mrs Kishori Jani (Sanskrit Teacher)

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
