Principals Update

We have done it – our first ever OFSTED inspection as a school. I can truly say that it has been a whole school effort and have many people to thank. Firstly, the senior team have been fantastic. Behind the scenes, we have been preparing for this inspection for a while and it was lovely to see the team share their passion for their areas of expertise. They are a credit to the way the school is led. Secondly, I want to thank our amazing admin and support team. Their calm and professional manner with the inspectors and cool under pressure when asked for a quick last minute task was a stabilising factor over the two days. Next, I want to thank every single member of teaching staff. They all stepped up, delivering exceptional lessons and supporting throughout. In particular, I want to thank colleagues in our deep dive subjects of Early Reading, English, Mathematics, Geography and History. It is never easy being a key focus of the inspection, however the teams were well led by their middle leaders and it showed over the two days. A big thank you to our pastoral team for everything you do to support pupil behaviour – it was noticed and very appreciated. A big thank you to the premises team – our site looked wonderful; never have I seen it so litter free! Our midday supervisors continued to effectively run our lunches and monitor behaviour. The senior team have been well supported by our SSC with our preparations and we are lucky to have such a dedicated group to work alongside. We also received support from Mike Ion, Mike Younger, Aurora Reid and our HR advisors throughout the inspection. As part of a Trust, their guidance and attention to detail has been appreciated. And finally, I do want to thank all of our pupils. It is for them that we work in our profession, but it is also their school and their reputation that has shone through over the two days of inspection. Students involved in meetings were highly articulate, thoughtful and honest about the school and demonstrated a real enjoyment for their learning.

The school will be unable to share the outcome judgements of the inspection until they have been confirmed and reviewed by OFSTED, which will be in 30 days. I will share the final OFSTED report with the school community as soon as it is available.

Dear Primary Parents and Carers,

It has been a great week in the Primary. Children have had the opportunity to meet pets and Reception children have been on their first coach trip to the farm, lots of hands on learning experiences!

The King’s Coronation primary picnic

In celebration of the King’s Coronation the children will be having a special picnic lunch in replacement of their normal lunch.

Please note: All children who did not complete the form sent out at the end of last term will by default have the cheese sandwich option.

Parents evening

As we are now in our final term for the academic year we will have a third parents evening to celebrate and share with you your child’s successes and areas of development.

We have decided to have our parents’ evenings face to face so that you can see your child’s learning environment and some of their pieces of work.

Each parents meeting will last no longer than 10 minutes to ensure everyone gets the same amount of time. The parents evening meeting will cover the following-
How has your child has progressed since the last meeting?
What have we noticed they are excelling in?
What are your child’s next steps and how you can support this at home?

Please click on the following relevant link below to book in a slot by 5th May.

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
