Principals Update

Last weekend the school and city celebrated a variety of events. Following the announcement that our PTFA was successful in securing funding to build a community garden, they hosted a Community Mela at the school on Saturday 29th. It was a wonderful day for families with a community stalls, fun fair activities and a number of workshops. A very big thank you to the PTFA volunteers, and also the event sponsors Leicester Times and the Pukaar Group. On Sunday, members of the Sikh community celebrated Vaisakhi with the city’s infamous and colourful Nagar Kirtan parade. It was lovely to see  our students participating in the celebration.

This weekend sees a historic event; the coronation of King Charles III. I hope that families enjoy the bank weekend and the festivities that will go alongside the coronation. Today at school our primary pupils had a special picnic lunch and have been learning more about the monarchy throughout the week. Secondary pupils received a dedicated form time towards the coronation to understand the significance of the monarchy and to look at the life of Prince Charles as he prepared for becoming heir to the crown.

Enjoy the sun and have a wonderful weekend!

PTFA

The Severn Trent funding we have secured pays for most of the infrastructure works needed for the project but we still have to route a water source to the site, buy lots of tools and equipment, seeds, plants and lots more. We have secured some additional funding from the AVIVA ‘Save our Wild Isles Community Fund’ but we need your help on this Crowdfunding Opportunity.

For the next 6 weeks Aviva will match every £1 donated to the project on a 1:2 basis, so if someone pledges £10, Aviva will add another £20 to the project, creating a total of £30 (Upto £5,000 and then on a 1:1 basis thereafter)

Any contribution large or small will be hugely appreciated, the link to donate is below. If you are considering making a large donation, please email us on [email protected]

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
