Principal Update

As we come to the end another busy half term, I would like to thank all our teachers, teaching assistants and support staff that continue to help nurture our students to become the best versions of themselves.

Tea and Talk Event – Year 7

Thank you to all the year 7 parents that were able to make our first Tea and Talk morning with the Head of Year 7, Miss Byrne and our Assistant Principal, Mrs Kurth.  It was great to talk and share our systems and practices and gather some feedback to make further improvements.  We hope to introduce more of these events with other year groups next academic year.

Onsite drop off and collection

As per our previous communications, following this half term break, from Monday 6th June 2022, there will be no onsite drop off or collection for secondary students except for those parents who are blue badge holders.  Please note, the school grounds are open from 8am so parents who have other drop offs elsewhere can drop their children to Tesco and they can make their way to School over the walkway.

Collection on site following after-school clubs is still permitted.

Please consider the following options:

  • Park and Walk (from TESCO)
  • Walk from Humberstone Lane / Barkby Thorpe Road
  • Cycle  or Scooter
  • Public Bus Service

Pastoral Updates

Rewards

Our students really are a credit to the school. Please do celebrate your child’s successes and achievements this half term, from academic success in a particular area of the curriculum to extra-curricular involvement, including house competitions and student leadership development. Students are awarded reward points and ‘get caught being good’ when demonstrating our Avanti values and behaviours. Our students are amazing, and it’s always great to let them know.

Snacks at Avanti Fields

Please be reminded that all snacks at Avanti Fields must be ethos friendly. Our catering team do sell snacks at breaktime for students to purchase.

  • All snacks MUST be vegetarian, no mushrooms, onions, garlic or eggs.
  • Students are NOT permitted to bring food or drink from outside on site for lunch.
  • Students can bring in fruit or veg sticks.
  • Sweets, chocolate, crisps are NOT allowed as a snack.
  • Due to severe allergies, nuts are not to be brought into school or on the bus.

Mobile phones

The use of student mobile phones is not permitted anywhere on the school site as per the school policy. This includes on the way out of school and whilst waiting in the bus queue. Please remind your child that mobile phones should be locked in lockers and switched off when in school.  Smart watches should not be used for communication features e.g. texting, social media or emails.  If students students use their watch for these features, it will be confiscated and returned to parents.

Volunteer Opportunities

A reminder that if you are interested in any of the volunteering opportunities below during the summer term, please get in touch with the school via email: [email protected]. You will be required to complete a DBS check.

Exam invigilator volunteers

We are holding a small round of mock examinations for our year 10 students between Monday 13th – Friday 17th June. This will allow us to have a practice run to see if our planned logistics and arrangements for conducting exams are suitable, prior to students entering year 11. We are seeking a team of between 4-6 volunteers to support the invigilation during the week, alongside our staff members. Volunteers should be available for either an AM or PM or full day session, and hopefully have availability for 3 days minimum.

 Library support volunteers

We are seeking volunteers who could contribute small blocks of time for the remainder of the academic year to help support the unpacking of the books, stamping books, labelling and organsiation of the books within the library stalls. Volunteer hours are flexible, with an ideal 2-3 hour block of time for each session, within school hours or up to 5:00pm each week day.
